For me, I think Megumi's arc was supposed to be how he clearly didn't ask for the situation he's in but he's blessed with his CT that made all the top tiers gun at him. It was never about his potential. This is why he's so noticeably weak despite having everything being given to him on a silver platter

A lot of his actual issues lie on the fact he didn't actually grow as a character. He remains a victim til the very end and is still just the same stubborn guy who would rather punch Yuji for doing stupid shit. That's what soured everyone on his reputation as a character.

I feel like nips knew at some point that Megumi's story was meant to be tragic from start to finish.

Someone who should have everything but the universe said "Fuck no" and tortures him endlessly. He ends up causing more trouble for everyone, caused a lot more deaths, is one of the weakest characters in the series, life never goes well for him. tsumiki was long dead before the story properly began, his stupidity caused Gojo to die, Him giving up despite everyone cutting their asses to save him. It actually makes sense when you think about it from his PoV though.

His conclusion could've been better but I say the fact he gets to smile felt like the ending to his journey. Lots of people loathe him for not being a power fantasy character but I highly doubt that was the point of his arc

Megumi always seemed like the type of character that could never appeal to dudebros and agendafags simply because he's a walking middle finger to what they want from him. Despite everyone's complaints, him being the deuteragonist was unironically necessary for that aspect to be hammered down.
