The free version is very limited. That said you do not need to maintain a sub to keep using it. You can pay for the month and then cancel your subscription and keep using whichever version you got the key for. You would only need to sub again if you wanted to update to a newer version if the update happened after your sub was up.

yeah I was looking at that, unfortunately alot of the older morphs got lost when Meshed (the dumbfuck) changed file extension types for everything. You could try downloading an older scene/package and see if the morphs are stored in there, or ask on the discord if anyone has them.

No, Meshed continues to drag 2.0 out to the point where many great content creators have fizzled out. There are a bunch of Asian ones now, though, arguably making the most content. It sucks, but without a direct competitor, the VaMDev team has no pressure to expedite production. they'll be Patreon-dripping for the next 10 years.

So I've tried VaM 2.0 finally, and it's definitely miles better than 1.0. It's even hard to go back to 1.0 to do anything. The program memory efficiency alone makes it so much more usable. Previously VaM was an unjustified HOG for memory even in desktop mode with good hardware. The graphics are insanely better, like PS3 to PS5. This is base level, no additional plugins. Reminds me of MakeRob's game" before he went allegedly insane.
That said, this is what should have been shared with investors years ago. All this time and all he has to show for it is a very bare minimum proof of concept. It's incredible that Meshed's yes men have made it impossible to force him to hire competent partners or push out updates at a feasible rate. Instead of sitting with these ancient 1.0 graphics we could have been making 2.0 content already, which will as of now will have to be made from scratch. Unfortunate for me because I enjoy making "futanari" content and will have to wait for plugins to be reprogrammed for 2.0.
All in all it's definitely one of a kind in what it can do, but I hate that we're probably not going to get 1.0 functionality for years.

How do you not back your stuff up? I have 2 seperate 8TB backup drives, one in my home and one at my parents home which are exact copies of each other, and contain nothing but massive 1TB heavily compressed RARs to preserve the most important shit I've ever downloaded, 1TB of which is an essentials VaM install folder with all my scenes and the required addonpackage folder, as well as rare shit you can't find for the game anymore, and /or creator rips for stuff that doesn't exist on even F95 anymore.

I can't imagine losing all my old shit posting stuff from 4chan dating back from 2004, and MSN/Viber/Whatsapp Messenger received folders nudes from ex's, etc going back to 2002.

There's tutorials on VaM hub, or youtube if you want details, but you can download scenes that have assets that you can resuse in your own scenes, along with very important plugins that allow much more to be done. Here's some of the keywords to my must have plugins:

You can find these on the hub or F95 under Asset Releases. KEEP IN MIND VR RUNS SLOWER AND VAM IS A MEMORY HOG, it still has a memory leak despite Meshed claiming to have patched it up. Keep your addon packages folder as small as you can, bigger it gets slower things are even more.

anyone have advice for creating scenes that look real rather than obviously a downgraded DAZ/blender render? is there an easier way to do it besides fucking with the lighting and postprocessing forever and ever?

Learning scene shit and buttons for the first time before doing some animations and I have no clue what's happening, I have a girl and a guy, made a button that toggles atomControl toggle on or off for both and that works just fine, but I noticed that whatever is not being rendered on the scene is just not actually appended/used/whatever on the scene/package maker thing.

It just takes time and practice my friend. VAM and it's UI isn't very friendly, it can take a while to get used to and understand what everything does. I remember when i first started it took me 3 or 4 months to finally feel a little more confident with it with getting to grips with the UI and knowing where everything is. I don't have VR and have no experience with that side of VAM so cant help you there unfortunately.

You've already mentioned the two most important things, lighting and post processing (using something like the postmagic plugin, or reshade) They really are the most important thing to getting vam to look better and there's no way around it if you want your stuff to look better.

I'll assume you already know this, but make sure your lights are set to force pixel, if you go over your light limit then anything set to auto will be set to vertex, which looks like ass.

Other than that, maybe try some of the more realistic looking skins? What i suggest is to browse released scenes already on the hub and if any catch your eye for their use of lighting then download them and study them to see what the creator did.

Actually it's not that important, since I didn't use reshade for this :P I used a LUT in postmagic, I can't remember the specific one right now since there is several LUT packs by creators, I chose one with muted colours and a certain shade so that it gave that Silent Hill horror vibe.

I am so pissed of about some assets I can't find, after I nuked my setup and starting all over.
1. A lips morph called pornstar, mostly enlarges lips vertically, without noticeable horizontal enlargement. Yes, I can do similar with other morphs, but pornstar lips morph just looked better, and kept lips edges more defined, without strething textures. Literally, why vars aren't parsed for content search?
2. eyebrows hair for futa. 5 brow shapes, fairly thick, well defined with pristine looks, can't remember the names, I believe it should be something relatively new.

Trying to make some FFXIV characters.

For those of you with a 12GB or 16GB VRAM card, how often does your VaM max out on it? I'm getting a 5070Ti and I was wondering if I'll get a performance hit using my Quest 2. Currently my 3060Ti generally dips below 40 fps with some whatever settings and 90% render scale (while in VR) but this will obviously wildly change depending on what scene and stuff I have loaded.

Well, I just "wasted" an entire afternoon. I decided I'd finally get around to seeing if I can automatically scan my vars for ones with duplicate files. Thanks to the wonder of Vibe Coding(tm) I was able to process all the shit and found much to my chagrin that it might not be worth it.

I have ~400 gigs of shit and less than ~25 are duplicate content.

I stopped before trying the real magic, which is extracting the files and then updating *every single data file* that references it across all the vars. I'm only about 90% sure it'd work but I really, really don't want to have to clean up the mess if it goes wrong.

One thing I might try is rewriting new version vars (Author.Name.1, Author.Name.2, etc) to pull in unchanged files by reference so they can be removed from the archive. Prolly won't save much time but it'd make me less annoyed about how many fucking copies of some things I have to have!

My end goal is making it start up faster. Doing stuff with vars seems to take the most time but I have no idea what I'm actually optimizing for other than "too many files"... 400k+ across all the vars. No, getting rid of content is not an option.

Thoughts, opinions?

VaM ends up being CPU bound for a whole bunch of stuff, and a whole bunch of other stuff, like dynamic lighting and physics, end up being bottlenecks regardless of card. Unfortunately the answer is "turn settings down" and "turn off hair sim." A faster card will absolutely help some things, but you're always going to see poor performance in demanding scenes just because of how VaM is.

Why the fuck are plugin creators unable to make tutorials for their plugins? I have installed beatIt to use with rhythm forces but the author insists in reverse engineering his scene which uses things I don't care about and have completely different functionalities.

That one is kinda rare, not gonna lie, I don't think I've seen much(If any) free mmf or any other kind of threesome poses. I think your best bet would be to search on hub using keywords like "gangbang" or "group" or similar shit, and pick the ones you like. If you gonna rip poses and animations from them - watch out for mocap-based scenes, they are usually made for a female model of certain body proportions and will scuff a bit if you be using something very different.

From looking into it the artifacts happen on badly meshed clothing items, afaik the only other 'post' plugin is moyashi.PostProcessing. I remember trying it and not having the same glitches, it must be a difference in how they each coded their plugins, however it doesn't quite give the same look that Postmagic does even when using the same LUTs. You can get it close but not exact. Postmagic looks better imo.

Well, if you want you can take the plugin, rename it, mabye even change it's menus around a bit if you know how - make it look different and confusing to operate, then upload it as "my collection of settings and tweaks for my scenes" or something like that(you see this type of bloat shit pretty often), and list it in your dependency list.
I would bet, like, 95% of the people would not bother looking into your shit and trying to reverse engineer it, and those 5% that would do will probably would not care even if they recognize this plugin.

Does your model have any custom feet morphs? Pretty much all of them change how the shoes look, sometimes even fucking them up completely. Try looking into the morphs and removing some feet ones, shoes should start to look normal, also some creators bake feet morphs into their full body character morph, be mindfull of that too.
Also elaborate on "angled incorrectly" part, is it, like, the whole foot or just the heel? Give us some screenshots.

Yeah something's become necessary components, like virtual desktop is vs steamvr or quest link, I was skeptical about vamx and the alternative voxta ai, after trying it out it became impossible to use vam without it for me overnight. It used voice input and generated voice output like a chatbot with speech. And specialized scenes work with the acidbubbles voxta plugin to use voice commands that work as vam overlays does in regular scenes. It's fun enough to replace vam altogether as a standalone to tinker with, finally found the right model Kokoro I think, that will run the ai while I can use virtual desktop vr +vam, although it's more lagging than running it on the voxta cloud that cost credits.
The demo that sold me on it was this Johnny Silverhand one if you know the Arasaka Corpo lore you'll enjoy it too
