Although now that I think of it, for the purpose of self inserting, its probably better to have a blank slate, but because it part of a story I am writing I want to at least implied or establish it is Betaman, but just done in a way so that it won't get in the way.

Think about how players perceive a blank slate vs a defined character. A blank slate suggests that your design leans more towards player freedom and choice, especially in terms of action and story. If that is what you are offering, then the blank slate is a good choice. However, if you want to focus your design on a less linear approach, an established character is a better fit.

Also, as a side note, men have an easier time self-inserting into established characters, especially if you provide the right context, such as a strong narrative theme, e.g. good vs evil, and character goal, e.g. the main quest.

Start with a blank slate and play your own game, see what character develops around that, and that defines how deep you need them to be. Then provide an on-ramp (those two points I mentioned).

people who follow my art generally doesn't have much objection on what I do with my own characters, only strong objection if I were to start modifying my other projects relating to existing ips so i can turn them into parody original characters, because it affords more flexibility on what I can do with them, but its just not the same.

You know what's even more flexible? Making your own characters. Literally none of what you're saying is true. Do what you want man but just realize very few, if anyone, sees it this way. You're really getting the worst of both worlds. Your work feels cheap and uncreative because you can't come up with your own characters. It leaves people who just want the actual character disappointed. All so you don't feel "weird" about changing an existing character's background, but you will change their name and appearance. psu strongly identified with the collette because they did the most with her in established collette's lore with their arts as well as her prevalent design elements. when they stopped their participation of the threads to pursuit careers, there hasn't been another artist that has picked up their mantle, and there hasn't been new consensus about what the thread wanted to do with the character so at the moment I think collette has basically been retired. while it is sometimes considered polite not to unilaterally pick up character that has such strong association with another creative, there is not actually an agree upon rules that nobody else should do something with the character.
