is the weird "cone of shame on their back" absolutely canon? It's so aesthetically displeasing, we haven't seen a canonically nude one yet, it would be great if that bit where just part of their armor and not actually anatomical.
Or at least it was a male only female feature.

While we didn't see any nude in-game, there is concept art and they do have it there. I don't like it either, but it's not a deal-breaker for me.
Their design is pretty interesting cause it looks like they had a checklist of what features are considered attractive and took it as literally as they could. Their bodies are hourglass shaped without fail, for example. But the faces are truly peak. Pronounced cheekbones and eyes, small nose, mouth in a permanent smile. It's so good you'd think they designed it in a lab.

the cone is tactical to stop their soft fleshy necks getting easily bit by predators in Palaven according to what I remember of the lore

It is probably meant to work by them moving their heads away and the ridge blocking it, but I like to imagine they can pull their necks inwards a bit kinda like a turtle because it is funny

I don't think it actually rains on palaven, does it? Coulda sworn there was something in the codex about their planet being so close to their star that the surface is constantly bombarded with harmful radiation, which is why they evolved the protective plating
Anonymous No.8906635 >>8906710

It rains no issue, it is just a bit hotter than Earth and the star also burns a bit hotter so it blasts way more UV light than it does on Earth. I assume they also don't have as thick a Ozone layer and that is why they evolved the thick plats with metalic elements on it.

You are probably thinking of how it has very little in the way of oceans, with most of the water being in rivers and small lakes. Turians are also notoriously shit at swimming.

that was truly the laissez-faire period. nowadays, if someone on questden (aka tgchan) for example rolled to do something that really fucked up the narrative, up to and including just outright ending the quest, he'd just be ignored.
which is frankly for the better, and probably a result of quests now being longer and more planned-out compared to the much shorter and wackier ones of the past; but the quality of having someone suggest "rape and kill [important secondary character] for no reason" and the protagonist actually doing it was fun

How hot of a planet can liquid water exist on?
Anonymous No.8911922
>>8911889
99.99999999 Β°C

But more seriously, water could remain liquid under sufficient pressure, so a heavy atmosphere/high gravity. Phase diagram suggests that the highest possible temperature where water could remain liquid is about 370 Β°C, but this would require over 200 times the atmospheric pressure of Earth. You'd also need much more stable biomolecules with a higher temperature.

I think something like a planet with a reflective atmosphere that allows it to stay much closer to the sun with Earth-like conditions. Could work by the atmosphere having a lot of airborne particulates with high albedo, but that brings its own set of problems.
Anonymous No.8911928

Depends on the atmospheric pressure. But keep in mind just because it is liquid at such radically different circunstances doesn't meant regular life chemistry will keep working.

Not how it works; there's convergent evolution where different species can evolve similar adaptations, but a pangolin's scales are not the same as a lizard's scales. They're also going extinct.
>>8913359
>He's right tho
He's not tho. Cloacas are inherently worse, and anyone who has ever had a lizard or a bird can attest to it. They're a breeding ground for bacterial infections and waste obstructions that otherwise wouldn't occur in a mammal. >Birds are highly successful despite having one and they aren't exactly dropping out the sky in droves because of it.
We reproduce much more slowly and have only emerged recently as a species, and have been directly responsible for out-competing them at pretty much every turn (australians not withstanding) and even making more than a few species go extinct. Clearly they are not that successful.
>This is a captivity problem. I don’t know about reptiles, but this doesn’t happen to birds in nature unless they’re deeply sick already.

All female species like Asari, instead of hunting prey they hunt males of other species to breed with.
Hunt for alpha males of species like champions and heroes in order to get the best genes other species have to offer.
Doesn't spawn hybrids, but offspring is endowed with dad's epigenomes, allowing stuff like better immunity to viruses and survivability in harsh environments.
Warrior/Survivalist race and culture, so courtship rituals are stuff like fight sex or innawoods safari dates.
Does take "trophies", but its stuff like locks of hair, mementos of encounters, t-shirts warn after mating, or even her mates underwear all mounted in their own trophy rooms.

The fly it to an isolated colony planet and attempt to take control. They end up failing due to the efforts of local resistance, the original crew of the jump carrier, and a team of special agents sent to the planet. The colony ends up better than ever and starts its own army producing the stolen experimental tech they took from SWAR. For his involvement in this, the main admiral of the story, Vos, gets shitcanned, and the admirals have their wartime powers revoked. Thanks for saving me from reading 450k words. I actually knew about most of what you said cause I read the first few thousand words when the story was first being made and skimmed the ending today. I just wanted to make sure there were no major things I was missing. The only good thing is that Mr Vos finally got fucked over, he's always been a cunt and the Broker story really showed how corrupt of a asshole he was. Very disappointing honestly, not only is it another Borealian centric story in the Alien factor (the most underserving race to be given any privileges in the alliance and the most bland) but they just ensured that humanity will just be the boring middle man faction in a frankly unfair alliance of alliance born out of the need to unite against a bigger threat. I wasnt expecting some massive authoritaian anti-alien empire to rise up or anything, but just a more "pro-human intrests and skeptical of aliens" faction that want the best for humanity. Writing romance between humans from a group like that and aliens seems much more intresting imo. I just hope the entire thing on Hades doesnt get forgeten and has long reaching consequences.

Also yeah I saw the comic, it was really neat even its very cheesy in the whole unity with aliens thing. I really do like the universe snekguy is making, and a lot of the art for it is amazing, but I do think he is squandering a lot in certain aspects. I hope the next story thats suppose to introduce the new race is more a "Birds of Prey" amd "Brokering Trust" in terms of quality.

Its funny how every new alien race Snekguy drops is peak except for the very first race of his series, who are just muscluar humans with some big cat traits. Its even funnier when you learn they are his favorite race to and get the most attention in his stories. I apologize for the Borealan slander but its just the truth, if snekguy made them way more animalistic and well, alien then i'd think they'd be more likable.

The Valbarans and Brokers are definetly his most creative races as of now both designwise and culturally. The Beetleguesians (and by extension the Jarlian human hybrids) are also quite good even if they are yet another race of alien bugs that are portrayed as an unstoppable horde. But they get bonus points for being more like an actual army instead of a horde of beasts. The Krell are neat but really lacking due to just being big crocodile people and also being very primitive, but since we finally got introduced to the Brokers properly it really helped expand Krell lore as well given both races have a long history with each other that is quite messed up if you think about it. And that leaves the Borealians, and while their planet and culture is intresting, the problem is like with how they look, its just to human and familiar if you ingore the pack autism.

They wouldnt have their own jump carrier, they'd have any other jump capable ship. They could buy a fucking civilian freighter through a dummy corporation and use that instead of hijacking a carrier group, something every military that ever existed would move heaven and earth to get back.
Why does a group which is supposedly only a few hundred anyways even fucking need a carrier when the strength of spec ops groups comes from political contacts?
This all just comes off as writing them as retarded and evil to force a black and white narrative but avoid breaking his worldbuilding.

Coursers are jump capable.
You can't bombard a planet with a freighter, but you can use their cargo containers as projectile weapons, which is something that happens in the story.

But then they wouldn't be able to control Hades' gravity well with a civilian carrier, or utilize any of the valuable military equipment present on a jump carrier. It was a base of operations completely unassailable to the civilian population. Pretty sure the UNNI were the politically conniving space CIA, by the way.

Also that would make no sense. They nominally a special science division that digivolved into a spec ops group to field test the shit. It would be abject nonsense for any generals/admirals to look at the people who are currently making railguns and lasers and then allow them to suddenly maintain their own standing arms under their own chain of command, even over a period of 30 years; and you wouldn't name your spec ops regiment of shadow warriors "special weapons and research". There is no way they would start off as or become a SEALs expy under a proper military branch, they have to be a somewhat separate entity that gets to siphon defense budget, maybe even outright private military contractors that started as skunkworks, but no way under direct navy control.

SWAR is Advanced Recon, not And Research. One of their jobs is field testing experimental weapons but they don't make them.
One of the major plot points is that elements of SWAR are no longer under control of the Navy due to corruption and nepotism. They steal experimental weapons from a black site and go rogue.
It's been an ongoing thing throughout the last few books that SWAR is breaking the regs and shady admirals are covering for them.

I do like how Autumn War's protagonist is a traumatized jingoist milf politician that is a radical outlier among her people because she experienced the genocidal first contact with the bugs on the valbaran colony planet. A monogamous and racist Valbaran female that is pro war as opposed the usual polyamorous xenophilic hippies that most of the race seems to be. I like her love-hate infatuation with the human cyborg soldier she crushes on that later evolves into true love because it feels way more satisfying to see that relationship develop. The other valb women are way to fucking easy, due to being humanophile polyamours sluts that share a single man. The growing relationship in Autumn War is way more natural because it has actual pushback from both sides. two entirely different races from different worlds shouldnt be getting hunky dory with each other in the span of a few hours lol, even if the human race basically saved their species from being bug food.

I think that may be a bit of a stretch my man, their deadlines comes from being alien velociraptors, but they're also still 4ft tall womanlets and weight like 60lbs averages. Most of their strength is in their legs and leg talons. They're frankly very well suited for being gunners due to their eyesight and mobility, but not so much as frontlines. They are literally the weakest of the races in terms of str, but the most dexterous and perceptive. Complete opposite of the Krell.

Fair warning, Autumn War turns into a slog of a read. Especially when Xipa's squad isn't in the spotlight, which including almost all of the last part wherein characters start lore dumping in the middle of active battlefields. Probably a bit too deep end for people not devoted to the author.
The peak stories are generally agreed to be Birds of Prey, Brokering Trust, and to a lesser extent The Rask Rebellion. I'd add personally Tepin's Muse to the lot because I enjoy it, though it's too damn short.
Avoid the slice of life stories involving Borealans.

Yep, I will flat out admit that when the story shifted from the Xipa storyline to that of the other guys (I forgot their names) I mostly fucking skimmed it. The Autumn War saga is franky two different stories put together that just so happen to be in the same exact battlefield. If you're a big Valbaran girl fan, read the stuff with Xipa's group, if you're a fan of Jarlian ladies, then read the other plotline of the story. Honestly I tried to read it all because I read snekguy's shit for the plot, but even then the Xipa stuff is way more intresting imo

It was extremely modern-Marvel tier where everyone has to monologue and quip mid-fight rather than just fucking fighting and getting the kill.
I'm reminded of a film called The Killer where a guy who is an assassin goes to a house to do a hit, and the guy he's trying to kill starts trying to monologue and it gives his position away so the assassin can just shoot him directly and it was extremely satisfying to see.
It varies. A Valbaran would not stand a chance alone & I doubt that a group of them would be able to take out a squad of TKs. Though, having it in their home turf, in their forest, would be a playback to Vietnam all over again.

I would want a very big gun if I'm facing off against a Krell & preferably far enough away so that thing doesn't rip me in half. Outside of that, I think with either a few specific weaponries or perhaps more bodies, victory is assured.

The Borealans are backwater savages. I don't believe they would prove to be too much of an issue, though, their strength is quite up there from recollection. I would think that they are as strong or at least slightly less strong than a Brute from Halo. So, like the Krell, I would not want to be near them whatsoever. If they get close enough to use hands, then I think it's game. But overall, I doubt that they would win.

Is actually a recommend. It's hard to describe without telling the whole story since it's so short, but basically a male Valb artist on his own goes to the Pinwheel station, stumbles into a Krell of sex decided by whichever version of the story, and they do stuff around the station before the inevitable. Rare humanless pairing.
Should mention that, although it doesn't matter that much for Muse, you should always read the Hetero versions, especially the Valb stories cause the bi versions actually undermine some things in the stories.
>Borealan slice of life
Only read about half of them and they're horribly trite and longer compared to Muse and it's the shitty cat people including the landwhale ones and almost never has lore events in them. And they have the worst cover art. Now it's hard to describe because it's hard to remember what happens because I was so disinterested... only for people who really like normie-tier catgirls who're big and possibly have diabetes.

My knowledge on the other races are somewhat limited. I know that the bugs have a few tricks up their sleeves, what I understand from 'Birds of Prey', they operate in swarm tactics. I don't think they would do well alone, outside of a few outliers such as their queen or specialized units. In a squad v squad setting? My money is still on the TK.

The Brokers seem to have mechs(?) or at least machines but I don't know much about them outside of their actual bodies & their tech is apparently out of this world. So, maybe they're equivalent to the Tau? I would only imagine that out of the water, they're as good as dead.

For Humanity, I think they would probably fair much better either solo or in a squad. The engagement would be similar to the UNSC fighting against the Covenant. So, I would assume that TKs would come out on top most of the time.

In a total war scenario? That's where things get a bit more interesting. In general, the technology for the Galactic Empire simply surpasses most if not all of the factions/races in that setting. The Coalition has multiple allies. The Empire doesn't. They don't use auxiliaries per say as they detest the idea of other races working for the empire. So, that's an edge for the Coalition. Outside of that edge, I can only see this turning into a UNSC vs. Covenant situation.

But I'm happy it's not confusing, but I do need to find some other ways to add more context before I write the short stories their in. But I could probably do that in the image description.

A story related thing they're in since it's not in the same world as my usual stuff. I took some inspiration from Oddworld, making them essentially factory workers/slaves like the mudokons. This would before they find a way out of their sentient city/factory/whatever. Just more ideas that I have on the shelf.

>gay shit
Heresy, but I'll take your word for it.

>>8918538
Tempting if straight but it'll probably be after I get through Autumn War. I don't plan on reading the gay shit. I just have no interest in it. And yeah, I can only imagine what arcs in those stories that I've read would be ruined for that singular purpose. Besides, how the culture of the raptors present itself. It doesn't seem likely that one would be open to the idea of being a homo.
>Abominable Obese Cats
Kek. I will never be opposed to the prospect of incineration against those cat people.

I got a question for you. What motivated you to draw, write, and overall, make this setting? I'm making my own little sci-fi, but it'd be nice to hear your process and how long it has taken you to get here I suppose. Your stuff is cool and I'm glad to see your back wandering in this thread. Also the redesign looks great!

Because some are rough ideas and the finalised one is a not-giraffe that would probably be yeeted by trigger-happy jannies assuming it's b&thro.

Honestly, finding motivation is getting hard these days. But that's just the very minor depression talking. It's mostly a habit for me at this point because there's things I want to see out there that don't exist. I used to take looong stretches of time to focus on just ONE thing medium, but it got tiring after awhile. Now I just pick and chose want to do, knowing it'll all add up one day since I have the patience for it. There's a lot more to it, but I try to be thorough with the way I write my ayys to make them feel and think alien but familiar.

But times like these help reinvigorate me a bit, so I want to thank you and others for today. And I'd be happy to see you stuff too, whenever you have the time. I'm always look for cool obsure finds on the net.

Thanks x2 for catching that and I'll definetly try to squeeze in more time for them somewhere. Keeping track of all this stuff is intimidating sometimes.

Oh, in terms of how long, I've drawn for here since 2022 (I think?), but I wasn't very active. The bulk of my stuff comes from 2023 in terms of drawing, in last year in terms of writing. I used to treat this like a second job really but, but I have more limited time now and I'm trying to remember that a hobby in the end. I love it but, just one guy. (Little busy the moment so expect some replies. Mobile-posting is cancer in my county.)

Well I'd be happy to share my stuff, it's a little unorganized but there's a lot there already. I can share them over DM's on some other platform whether it's twitter, discord, etc. Not necessarily comfortable making it public yet.

Wow, you could have made me believe you started a decade ago with how stylized your stuff is. It looks good and has substance to it- dare I say, you got talent.

Understandable, I've got docs I don't share either. I don't use it with folks outside of my friends often, but you can hit me up on discord: look_n_lurk. I'd be happy to talk shop and other stuff.

Oh no, I didn't start drawing for the first time *ever* in 2022. I've drawn since I was like four. I just dropped by, but my style has developed a good bit since then I suppose. And I was pretty shit for most of that time as a hobbyist.
