Still, at the end of the day the high end of the genre is really high quality now.
The big issue is there are a lot less developers that produce a bunch of content anymore, the best of them get big and start milking and taking forever, a lot are doing NTR/mental illness content because troons and cucks enjoy getting milked, and unless you enjoy the level of slop that is gradma's house for example you're just left with 20 hours of yearly content compared to a lot more than that a few years ago.

Those 2 groups are the epitome of a vocal minority. They constantly make demands but there's almost zero money to be made in pandering to them.

The "aggressively vanilla" stuff you complain about is where the $$$ is at. FYI.

Most games operate at ~7-8 month intervals, which is a lot, but if you follow enough games with the f95 tracker it's really not that big of a deal since things will just update at different times. I'd much rather take this than every game with shitty art, 2-3 branching paths at most per game, terrible writing, etc. that was the common denom for so long.

My current following list is like 30, and that's with plenty of stuff to still check out, new games coming out, backlog of new stuff, etc. We're in a good spot, people knew to the genre don't really know how good they have it.

How do people here generally feel about wegs where the dev goes out of his way to invent some reason for there to be basically no other male characters present in the world that the game takes place in? I'm talking shit like

But it's a very closed off, static experience. And it's pretty linear with your choices having next to no consequences up until the last chapter.
It's set up in a way that the story really hinges on the characters, and on one character in particular. If you don't like her you'll end up having a bad time. If you DO end up liking her, however, you'll end up with a pretty solid romance story.

Short answer, I think Bella's room is just going to be where she stores everything related to her husband, old pictures and such that remind her of that period of her life, and secondarily how she helps keep her mental problems at bay.

I think she has some PTSD or something, that he actually just died and she didn't want to accept it, and so kept pretending he was alive, seeing and talking to him and so on. Like with the ep8 flashback at the old library, he probably wasn't real, and probably also why she was so afraid of going there during the date, she thought she would see something that really reminds her of him or some event, and so he would come back (in her mind at least). So she puts everything related to him and that period of her life into that room and keeps it sealed away. As long as it's closed she doesn't see him anymore.

It's sort of like how in every hentai game there's a magical tomb with a Demon Lord, the one that always ends up escaping at the start for whatever stupid reason, and you spend the entire game dealing with him or some Demon Lord's curse. Only in this case, it happens in ep12, Maya opening the door is the stupid reason, the memories are the Demon Lord's curse, and the only person who really knows about it all is Bella (and maybe Jill, or Cathy). So in other words, on her route at least, the MC is fighting the curse the entire game without even knowing it, helping her rewrite the old memories with new ones, or something to that effect.

It even fits with the whole DnG storyline too, where the Good Ending is you breaking the Ice Queen's (Bella's) curse and marrying her at the end. And oddly enough, Cathy is the one who tells you about the Ice Queen's curse in DnG, which is why I mentioned she might know about Bella and her "curse" and might be why they're all friends. It seems like something DPC would write at least, having it tie into other parts of the game like that, and also a way to bring Cathy back into the story.

I've seen people talk about the nursery idea, and they might be right that there's a dead baby or kid in her story somewhere, after all she does react strangely when you tell her in ep2 that Jill isn't her daughter and can make her own decisions, so there's possibly something there. But that can all be true without the room being a nursery or whatever, there are other things that would easily shock Maya, probably more than that.

For example, whenever you look under the door in ep5 or ep6 or whenever it is, there are some military boots, so it's quite possible that Bella has a mannequin in there with army fatigues on it or something. Which might also be an explanation for the army guy/intruder that you see when you're drunk back in ep2, meaning she had it in her library that night before she was putting it in the locked room, but didn't expect to bring you home drunk and hadn't moved it in there yet. Much like the picture frame she has in the library up against the wall, that is there when you stay with her in ep4, but gets moved somewhere after, likely into the locked room as well. - So now imagine you're Maya looking for a towel, you open this random door, only to be faced a mannequin/person standing right there in the dark looking at you, that would 100% be enough to shock you and anyone else looking at it, much more than a crib or whatever else imo. And it also kinda follows the S03 Halloween intro, where there's a person standing in the doorway before the jumpscare.
