Okay, I'll try to keep the lore drop to a minimum.

Transformation is from reciting a phrase, as the power is inside them; this way, they don't need to carry around a morpher or some other easily lost or misplaced object. (still working on something cool for them to say to transform)

Where it comes from is the planet Vion Thalor, a far more advanced civilization than ours, that was being conquered by the demon forces. Their scientists developed a power that could defeat the demons, but too late as their planet was all but defeated. So they sent it off to the next planet in the demons' sights, Earth.

This power takes the form of a small animal creature in keeping with the Magical Girls having a talking pet theme (thinking of a chibi gryphon). And it went and bestowed the power on the girls and Hoshi.
