My general advice is that since the overwhelming majority of violent crime is not random street violence, but rather done by people who knew each other beforehand, if you want to reduce your chances of being a crime victim you should identify dangerous people, and have as few of them in your life as possible. I think of things like abusive romantic partners, drug dealers, drug addicts or degenerate gamblers, people in gangs and other criminals, people with psychotic mental illness, and people with an abnormal fixation on weapons. The fewer of them you have in your life the likelier you are to live to old age and die of natural causes. So I wouldn't want to be around someone who says something like that.
