So, I keep getting yelled at by my boss for not asking for help when I am overwhelmed with work. Problem is, I struggle asking them for help because for 10 years, I had a boss that would go off the rails and call me lazy (among other things) for asking for help. How can I get over this fear?

You can only get over the fear through action. You can't tell your brain to stop being afraid of something. You have to show it that the thing isn't scary. You can only do this by forcing yourself to do it despite the fear. Your boss has facilitated an environment where you can safely break your previously formed habit and escape your comfort zone without risk of danger. Through repetition you can unlearn the anxiety around asking for help. If you had a father you'd know this.

My dad would call me retarded when I screwed up. Hell, one time I got a B in school and got called a retarded failure.

Have the same issue, Co-workers call me lazy. Back stab to the boss their Indian. They actively yell and try to provoke me, recently just started working at another location.

New co-workers, love me. say, I'm fast, effective and give me plenty of hours. trying to get actively transferred now.

If they have an opinion of you, you have to change the group which is very hard to do. I worked with one boss who hated my guts but as soon as, I worked with him at another location he was very friendly and realized i was fast.

It was because co-workers created conflict in my case.

Do you have co-workers that do the same? are they always whispering into the ear. "Gandalf the grey isn't welcome here"?

Have you explained this to your new boss?

Yes, and they keep saying that they won't do that. But every time I try asking for help, every alarm bell goes off in my head telling me it's a bad idea. So I just struggle and my work suffers.

The boss is also very fickle. A while back, I got an email from her about my email signature in dynamics. It became an hour long endeavor where she refused to work with me, instead expecting me to team up with another co-worker over my signature.

Instead, she should have just said "Your signature isn't compliant, here is what it should look like, please change it ASAP" One email, and it gets done.

Your new boss has made it clear he WANTS you to ask for help. Not asking for help IS screwing up
