I got caught driving drunk, got put in the drunk tank overnight, and have a court date in a month from now. Told my wife, she left me. Haven't told work yet but not sure what they will say.

This was a horrible decision and I've struggled with alcohol abuse for about 5 years now. Its gotten bad the last 2 years. This was a wakeup call for me like no other, and "woke me up". I'm quitting alcohol completely.

This was my first offence ever on my record, and I didn't hit anyone or cause any damage to anything. I looked up possible punishments and I can get anything from $1000 fine, to a month in jail. How fucked am I? Would they really throw me in a cell on a first-time offence with nobody getting hurt? I'm hoping the lawyer they appoint to me sees that it's a first time offence and sways the court in a better decision. How fucked am I?

You could be honest and tell your work and the judge you will go to rehab. If you put in an honest effort, instead of punishing you they might help you.
You still might get a fine or something, but it could cushion the blow.

based

I had to take a written road exam recently and something that stood out to me was how quickly and severe the fines become for multiple dui offenders. Can't remember about jailtime but they'll def take ur license if they feel like it.

Depends on the state. I got a dui right around the time they started cracking down on it here. Couple grand in fines and a week in jail. If it says something like "30 days in jail", most likely you'll only actually be in for something like a week, with the rest being "suspended" on some sort of clause. If you have the cash, a lawyer might be worth looking into. My sister managed to get a good deal on hers by hiring a lawyer.

More than anything don't panic. Even with them taking these things more seriously nowadays, it's from from the end of your life or some shit.

Hope the best for you anon, been an alkie for about 10 years, trying to kick the shit myself.

>get dui
>weekend in jail waiting for court to open
>fast forward
>$900 court fine
>$450 dui class
>$600 to get my license reinstated

They are total Jews but you will be fine with just one dui. Why even tell your job? Weirdest part is you canโ€™t leave the country for 5 years after getting a dui.

99% chance you just get probation unless you were extremely hammered. Dont stress over jail time.

While I personally think anyone who drives drunk is guilty of attempted murder (If you don't kill someone, THAT is the accident), as a first offender you will get off with a low fine and driving school

in the United States we don't even punish people who actually vehicular manslaughter people anyway

You can grind a cyclist or pedestrian to pulp under your SUV for a quarter mile and get like 18 months

get a lawyer
do not talk to the police
if you have an alcohol problem you will probably not be able to quit on your own. get help. do this >>33205773. you could also find an AA meeting or something, and start going now. that will help and will look good to the judge.
