A pro gamer hired / paid by who and why? Most gaming prizes don't fund this and most corpos don't need you as a shill now.

You can just make a youtube channel analyzing stuff. Itโ€™s just a hobby.

This, or become a streamer. If you're good at vidya and have a personality you can still get paid to play.

I like playing street fighter and other fighting games and the unique thing about them is that by their nature they can be played without needing to rely on other people.
I know how childish it is, but As much as I hate continuing to just get on and win and lose over and over and make no progress in rank, getting up to practice and play is about the only thing I've ever felt so strongly about. I've never had such a powerful reason to get out of bed before.

honestly I don't even feel I'm that good. There are people better than me who stream only to a couple hundred people

just do one if the many tests available online and look at your APM. it's not good enough, you're already old.

hell, magnus carlsen is saying he's past his prime for classical chess now and he's like 33 and that's a game where you just sit and think for an hour

you waited too long. sports and competitive gaming require response times you age out of and it's not controversial

Maybe I am old, but what is the appeal of being a pro gamer?
I love the oldschool game streamers who were basically doing rif tracks. Or speed runners, or even game competitions. I just don't see why it's a profession to play games competitively. I can maybe watch a few rounds of comp before I just don't care.

So what is it that makes you feel it's a good path to follow?

Just the pretty universal desire of being able to make a life doing what I love
As I said above, As frustrating as it can be, nothing else in life has ever been as powerful of a motivation to get out of bed, as practicing fighting games has.

analysts are important and underrated, as are coaches. such work will also generate transferable skills for a resume.
if it's just recognition you want, go to some local tournaments. you might not have the reaction time to be the best in the world, but the best in Kentucky? or well known for something cool, a particular style or character? that can happen.

Honestly go for it. Do what you want to do in life. Pick up the pieces if it fails. Trying and failing is how to make progress in life.
