What should I expect if I wanted to move to Nebraska from California?
Id be moving with my girlfriend of a year
Im working currently a mobile detailing business from my truck, and I have savings to keep me floating
Ideally by next year this time we plan to have everything settled and ready to move
How viable is this?

Nebraska is nothing but corn and meth and if you don't find employment in either one you're fucked.

Why Nebraska? It would make more sense to describe what you're looking for.

A Californian may find winter driving amusing. There is snow and ice and nobody uses chains. They just slide around all over.
Which part ca and ne?

We're from the valley area and we're starting off deciding to go into Lincoln close to her dad

More seclusion and lower cost of living

people make a lot less and there are less services too. People are not going to pay california prices or have the same level of interest in your mobile detailing business because there are just less people all around. I hope things work out for you, but this seems like a move in the wrong direction to me.

I know that the city where her dad lives in is higher population than the valley town we're currently in
The prices locally here are high as well however the surrounding towns are fairly sparse in comparison to really the major cities nearby, that's where we've seen the prices increases mostly rise from
The idea we had was that the service would be more manageable hopefully due to higher amount of a customer base combined with the salary in Lincoln seems to be comparable to a lower wealth valleys here in Cali
But we're only guessing and likely very inexperienced

Be ready for REAL weather. California just does not get cold like the plains do. Be ready for extreme weather events and ask your neighbors how bad the winters get before you move. Things like multi day power outages aren't rare.

Climate change is pushing tornadoes around and I'm fairly sure Nebraska does get them and will get them worse in coming years.. I wouldn't be too freaked out about them but it is best to know what to do when the tornado doesn't look like it is moving.

As others have said, be aware lower costs also mean lower incomes, so don't expect to get california pay for luxury goods. See if you can find anyone else doing the same work in the area and look into what they are charging to get a realistic idea for budgeting.

Don't start smoking meth. Fucking everyone in the corn belt smokes it and burns up their lives.

When we talked to her dad about Nebraska, he talked about the weather being a massive difference in winter especially, with the snow getting high sometimes
There are a fair amount of multiple different shops atleast in Lincoln that do similar work to what I currently do right now, and while I guess looking now isn't exactly too useful considering we're still much time off until we can even begin to get everything ready to move, but it'll be good to ask to get a basis of an Idea I suppose
I'll keep in mind about the meth but Im hoping her dad, who overcame his years long addiction, earned his bachelors and reunited and rebuilt an addiction with both of his daughters, to be enough inspiration and support to hope that SHE doesn't fall into meth, ideally with my support as well
It's so much time away but I'm hoping to plan in advance until atleast may of next year

> rebuilt an addiction with both of his daughters

this some kind of Freudian psychic prediction?

but seriously, something else to consider is that there is NOTHING to do in the midwest compared to California. There might be a handful of half decent restaurants, and occasional concert with a band worth caring about...and corn. There is a reason people turn to meth, they get BORED. If you are the kind of person who cares about culture beyond the movie theater, be ready to go for some long drives.

I wish you well on your future travels. California is just always going to be expensive and the rest of the country truly does have some great beauty.

Don't not expect for people to love you being from California no matter how nice they are to you. Forget you liberal shit hole ways and adjust to being a local.

I live in Omaha. Lincoln and Omaha are the only places in Nebraska worth living in imo. If you have relatives in Lincoln it could definitely be viable to move there.
