I want to live in Hawaii but I can't afford it. Especially because I'm broke and have a ton of debt. I don't even like the heat but I've always been drawn to tropical beaches

its overly romanticized. take away the beaches (where you won't be anyway 99% of the time), and you just have a more tropical arizona with an even higher cost of living. you'll go there, enjoy it for a year, tops, and hate it over time.

You could try living on mexico coast. same tropical beaches, but much cheaper to live in and easy access to the american main land should you change your mind.

You can afford it. It is free to fish and camp on the beach and there are abundant fruits growing near roads. Hitchhiking is an acceptable thing. Local dive loco moco rice egg beef for about three fifty.
Maybe I am a dumbo but I visited San Francisco and fell in love, when I was a kid so, i grew and got rid of my stuff and here I am, close enough. You gan figure it out. Or at least have fun trying.

Just play Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Its a Hawaii simulator, and will be much more rewarding than living there irl.

Hawaii is "okay". If you love surfing, genuinely enjoy going to the beach multiple times a week and the tropical weather, then you'll enjoy it here. If not, there is really no reason to live here unless you like wasting money or you're a real estate agent / investor. I simply wouldn't recommend to live here just to live here. Everything is expensive. I make about 10k (before taxes and business expenses) per month and it still feels like I can't really save. The online dating scene is kind of shit compared to other places like California or NYC. I still do okay but you can easily run out of girls to swipe on.

If you're broke and in a ton of debt, you definitely shouldn't move here. You can definitely find cheap housing if you look hard enough or know the right people but you'd need to be okay with multiple roommates and no AC. I knew a Taiwanese girl that found a place that rented rooms to Asian students for $600ish a month. It was fine during the "winter" but once summer hit, holy shit it was a humid hot mess in there. No amount of fans will cool the room.

There's a reason why Hawaii has a lot of people that come to work remotely but then they end up leaving after around 6 months because the "wow" factor of Hawaii quickly dissipates.

The entire island of Oahu is surrounded with homeless camps, just buy a tent

Except unlike Arizona, it's humid as hell.
