as someone that has worked in schools for disabled kids, you have no idea how destructive, violent and dangerous these kids can get when they have a melty and nobody is allowed to touch them really (like you can grab the upper arm but no wrists etc) to keep them from attacking others, hurting themselves or destroying stuff
we never had anything like this but I can see how they might have had students that would be impossible to calm down without it wnding in disaster without this
people that have no idea how it is to look after disabled kids are so quick to judge, they think if you are just nice to them then there will be no need for any more extreme measures and thats simply not true
we had a student that attacked teachers with a knife multiple times because he got so frustrated over being unable to clearly communicate and them not immediately grasping what he meant

this calm down corner is even padded, it‘s clearly meant as a containment zone for someone that can‘t be contained otherwise and meant to limit the possibility they injure themselves
as for the bloody nose, maybe thats because that kid was having a melty and had to be put there for damage control
we had a teen that would simply start smashing his head on the wall or the sink or the ground until there was blood everywhere and hus face was pulp
they make it sound like they punched the kid in the nose and then locked it in the cage

yeah honestly
they do grow on you but it‘s insane the resources it takes to support mentally disabled people and it‘s sadly very destructive to their families
most siblings of disabled kids get neglected to some extent by default simply because the disabled kid needs insane amounts of attention and care, being driven to therapy, having a million surgeries etc
