I want to get an art job but I'm not sure if I'm good enough. I live in a state that has no art jobs so I'd need remote work.
I wanted to do character concept art.
It's always been my dream as a child, I would always rush Lego games to customize the characters, or only play avatar games... even though I just learned about what the job actually is, and aware that this isn't as exciting as I thought it was, I still want to do it.
Do I need to finish college? im going to finish my associates this year, and I'll be able to transfer to a new college. Right now, I'm trying to have the mindset of learning how to do the job at home before anything else, but even if I'm over prepared I can't really know since I have no friends at all, let alone friends that would know if Im on the right track... I'll be completely honest, im not sure if I'm even good enough yet.
Where do I look? Where do I start?

That job is literally being eaten alive by AI as we speak. Why would someone ever hire a graphic designer or character artist when they can get a computer program to do it at almost no cost and instantly?

I just had an AI program make this for this very thread in a matter of seconds.

I'm sorry, but you will have to find a different path.

Even if there were jobs, you can't get one without a portfolio. Assemble a collection of both original and established characters (the latter just to show how good you are technically, in duplicating known images) Send it to studios, ad agencies, toy companies, etc.

And above all (This is VERY important), have a day job

I'm not a graphic artist but, off the top of my head: Start offering your services on Fiverr or similar, so start building a portfolio and testimonials. I suspect that such a portfolio is worth more than any art degree.
