What's the most polite way to tell my coworkers and supervisors that I don't want to discuss politics at work and that I think it is inappropriate? I dont want to come across as unkind, or like I don't care about their opinions. It's just not why I'm here, and I don't want to get roped into a disagreement over something that has nothing to do with our job.
Here’s a respectful and professional way to say it without sounding rude or dismissive:
> **"Hey, I totally respect that everyone has their own views, but I try to keep politics out of work conversations. I’ve just found it’s better for staying focused and keeping things positive. Hope that’s okay."**
You’re:
* Not judging them
* Setting a boundary
* Keeping the tone calm and reasonable
If it's a group convo, you can say:
> **"Mind if we skip politics? I’d rather not get into something that could cause tension here at work."**
And if someone pushes further:
> **"I get it’s important to talk about, but I’d prefer to stay out of political discussions while we’re on the clock. Just my personal policy."**
Short, polite, and clear. Keeps you out of trouble and shows maturity.
>>33213478 (OP)"I get all the news and politics I can handle from TV. Let's all declare the office/shop/factory a No Politics Zone.
>>33213478 (OP)just don't say anything. what is going on, are coworkers coming up to you and saying "so what are you, left wign or right wing??????????????"
>>33213478 (OP)Pull out your phone and start filming them, tell them you're make a political documentary.
>>33213802I have two coworkers who have been trying to bait me into a political conversation. I don't know if they think I agree with them, or if they're trying to suss out if I agree with them. I don't want some unnecessary tension with my coworkers or my boss because we have different opinions on whatever the topic of the week is.
>>33213478 (OP)Just don't be interested in the conversation. That kills it pretty quick. No ones gonna sit there talking to you about politics all day if you don't give a fuck.
>>33213478 (OP)Tell them you’re busy doing your job. It isn’t rude to correct unethical behaviour at work. Unless political discussion generates profit, in industry such as medical, aviation, law enforcement.
>>33213890Oh, so you need to learn your own convictions and then btfo.
>>33214147Or a disinterested mhmm, then if they ask your opinion "I dunno I don't care too much"
