Need advice on which medical provider I need to choose.
>hands shake as long as i remember
>makes things hard like playing on the wii
>fast forward to about 14, people start to point it out, say drink more water
>covid hits, go to neurologist
>get an emg/eeg and an mri of the brain
>all's normal, just get told to take vitamin e and d
>does nothing
>try propranolol 10mg, works a bit
>shaking gets worst, right wrist starts cracking
>by 2024, the entire body now clicks and cracks like i have no skin and everything is arthritis
>horrifically painful, scream in pain and wind up in hospital half the time
>see another neurologist, doesn't do much
>see nyu langone doctor on my island, recommends me another provider from university hospital
>lady doctor who sees me after 3 months of waiting basically tells me to go to the city and they won't take my insurance, essentially worst doctors appointment
>only hint was that my tremors are "functional tremor" and not essential tremor
>city is a good 3-4 hours away from me, it'd take a day to do everything and I'd have to follow up with orthopedic too
I don't know what to do at this point. Been taking heavy painkillers that I can get my hands on to deal with the pain and I need to find a doctor soon before I inevitably move out.
The city has 3 major providers: Mt Sinai Hospital, NYU Langone, and NY Presbyterian. All sound good but I genuinely don't know who to choose.
Has anyone here had to go to doctors in the city from these providers before? What were your experiences like?

Sorry to hear that. Get well soon anon.

Wouldn't you best consult some independent doctor in NYC first that can keep a second set of eyes on your probably not trivial case and that might actually know the clinics?

Chances are low that someone here with a comparable condition was in all three of these hospitals in NYC tho. I'm on the wrong continent even.

As a Neurology resident, it would be better if you went to a Movement Disorder subspecialist instead of general neuro.

Even then, it might be better if you went to a dystonia specialist because tremor+worsening pain+normal MRI/EMG can be a focal arm dystonia and for that, the treatment is botox injections. However, this is simply a guess based on what you describe and these things require physical exam in detail.

Choose by doctor or department, not hospital. Those are all world-class institutions, but each has particular strengths. Which one has the World's Foremost Authority, or specialists you've heard or read about?

I live quite a long ways away and TeleHealth is not an option sadly. I'd have to go physically. From what I've asked before, no one has an objective opinion.

I think I said that in the post, and the only movement disorder specialists are in the city.
I've never heard of dystonia or botox for tremors. I've never had an EMG despite seeing about 5 different neurologists now and 1 movement disorder neurologist.

NY Presbyterian has the highest overall by tenure, by NYU Langone is the highest ranked hospital in the country for neurology (even more than Mayo). Problem is, wait times are 3 months.
I'm thinking of booking appointments for all 3 and then going to one or two and seeing if it goes well. Dystonia doctor sounds right too.

I'd like to go over general symptoms:
>can't feel left side of my body as well as right, blinking
>bones click when i move them, like stretching but absolutely painful
>went from right wrist to full body, chest, neck, jaw, earbone, etc
>very hard to lift things above head or tilt stuff up and down (scoliosis doesn't help)
>only had emg one time and eeg twice, both were normal when i was 15
>never tried pt
One doctor did an experiment where one hand stopped shaking as I was trying to touch my nose with the other, implying it was something with my brain, but then never followed up with me and told me to see a guy who doesn't accept my insurance.

I haven't gone to any of these places, that's why I made the thread.
Previous bloodwork I did keeps coming back normal, even the sendouts to the Mayo Clinic they were doing like checking for nerve cancers.
