I seriously think we're living in one of the darkest periods of human history. I know people will often point to things like modern technology, post-scarcity, and the like, but the truth is we are absolutely broken both politically and socially. Everything I thought I knew is being teared apart. Everyone is miserable. There is really nothing to look forward to. Everything around me is crumbling, and it feels like nobody's noticing. The streets are being taken over by undesirables, and nobody's noticing. I feel like I want to scream out into the world and make people notice, but I have no strength. I want to tell people that things were better back then, but they'll just laugh and call me a delusional cupcake. I feel like I'm sitting in a dark hole filled with maniacs. Is there any reason to see any good in this modern world?

Of all boys born in the soviet union in 1924, only 19% of them lived to see their 21st birthday in 1945. 81% died before then, either from smallpox or other diseases that are curable today, the multiple famines that country experienced, political violence, or were killed directly or indirectly by ww2. Really think about this.

Be glad you were born in this era, and no other.

Very much this. War is the worst that can happen to you. If you live in peace, you don't have it that bad (even if you can see the decline clearly). If you live in war, you have the peacetime to look forward to.

>Worst that can happen is dying
Wrong. Worse that can happen is being driven to suicide. Just look at the self harm/SSRI use and you'll see today is the worst time.

I think you know little of history if you think that. I assume you are mistaking a feeling of social and cultural alienation with actual horrific periods in history. It's normal not to feel unified with an enormous nation around you. The default is just your township. The broader sense is newer due to mass communication.

Don't be tricked by the feelings, and instead actually connect with those around you.

do you think people didn't kill themselves in the past? Suicide and depression have been around as long as civilization. We even have writings from Roman Emperors talking about how depressed they are, and that life seems pointless.

>Everyone is miserable
Something tells me you spend far too much time on the internet, in places like reddit, 4chan, and comments sections of social media apps like youtube. Everyone is not miserable. Politics hardly affect you if you just stop watching the news and thinking about it. You think they affect you, but that's because you're like 19 years old and you keep hearing people on the news and on social media freaking out about politics so you think they must be right, but no, they're just making conversation about the latest news, it doesn't actually affect most of them in any tangible way either. Only thing you can control is your own behavior, but I know your type and taking a viewpoint that everything is fucked is an easy way to rationalize not taking action on the things that are in your control because doing nothing and staying in your comfort zone is more convenient than doing the boring life stuff that will actually improve your circumstances. I'm only speaking from personal experience, don't take it the wrong way
