This is going to be a bit of a long one. I'm 24 and I finished up my study abroad program in Fukuoka about 3 weeks ago. I came with the intent to stay, as I sold all of my belongings before leaving for the program., i'm currently staying with a Japanese friend and weighing my options until my student visa is up, as it expires in August. I applied to a couple of language schools and got into one in Kyoto, but i'm trying to understand my workflow path.

I'm going to continue to try and make connections here and see if I can get a job without a degree. If not, my goal is Language School -> Apply for a Japanese College and get a degree that way to qualify for a real work visa. It's a long goal line, but i'm willing to stick it out if it means I can stay here.

Although, I was talking to my friend back in the states, and they think I should come back, dorm, finish my last two semesters and get my Bachelor's Degree in May of next year. Then apply for the JET Program that year as well. Apparently they'll even help you try and find a Japanese job after a year of being within the program too.

So now i'm feeling a little conflicted on what I should do next. Or what path to take. My visa is up in August and the Language School I got into doesn't start until the end of September, so i'll be flying to Vietnam as my Visa reprocesses.

Don't do the JET program. You'll be stuck as a English teacher in the middle of nowhere, given a limited stay of a couple of years, and then you'll be where you are now: trying to find a way to stay.

America is a shitstorm right now. Don't come back here for at least 5 years. No jobs, especially for new grads. Mass stripping of things like social programs and worker rights, and other garbage is making this place a hellhole. Japan is better for work right now.

Have you spoken to your professors yet? They might be able to help you find the next step. Also, contact the school and see what they say. You'll probably need to extend your student visa or reapply for it if you haven't already.
