Anyone here who is allergic to pets but still owns one?
I love my cat so much, but lately my nose gets very itchy around him. I can't throw him out. Can I keep him around without constant suffering? Any tips on how to deal with it?
I would especially appreciate people speaking from experience.

Ex girlfriend of mine was allergic to cats. She found one she really wanted, and I offered to watch it for several months while she saw an allergy doctor. She got tested for allergies first, then got weekly shots for whatever she was allergic to related to the cat. After three or four months, she was able to be around cats without allergies flaring up.

I just eventually stopped being as allergic. I used to have super bad allergies from them. I don't think I hardly am at all now.

if you have multiple rooms, have one where no cats are allowed. If you live in a house, keep the cat outside. Other than that get an air purifier with HEPA. There's immunotherapy, but work not while you are having constant contacts to cats. The saliva is more of an issue, so avoid too much body contact or rubbing glands on you. Overall is doable if you don't cuddle much with them, but if you do it's hard. I didn't own them, but lived with my ex who had cats. You could also just take antihistamines every day.

If the allergy has suddenly started, it may not be to the cat itself but to something new on or around him - fleas, a new blanket, etc
