also wondering this. I'm 24 and feel like I should dress better than just jeans and t-shirt but I feel so out of place whenever I try to "dress up" and even been told that I look retarded. I just don't get fashion, what goes with what, the sizes etc.

Just dress like an 80s coke dealer. Colorblock and understated graphic camp collar shirts in lightweight materials. Darker earth and jewel tones if you have light skin, the opposite if you're darker compectioned.

When all else fails my go to is black polo or t-shirt, solid color flat-front shorts, and black or white shoes. Pretty hard to fuck that up. Boring style can be accented with jewelry, watches, and nice shoes, but only do this if you can afford nice stuff. Don't buy a $50 Seiko or Timex like a redditor, get like a Tissot PRX or Swatch x Omega meme watch bare minimum.

Goes without saying all of this works much better if you look masculine and at least sort of jacked so even more relaxed fit clothes still have form and show your frame. If you look like a nerd then idk

Hawaiian Shirt, perhaps unbuttoned with a solid color tee shirt underneath (graphics tees are low class).
Seersucker anything, entire suit, just a nice button up shirt, whatever.
Takes a decent physique to rock a "bahama" look, thats an option.
White button up long sleeve shirt with sleeves rolled up, assuming again you have the physique.
Polo shirt makes it look like business casual on the way to the office, but its a good last resort.
This is anonymous enough and my T is high enough from being very /fit/ that I feel comfortable saying the above comes from my wife dressing me and shopping for me trying to make her "frenemies" jealous.
There are downsides to this strategy, skin tight shirts may look good if you're very /fit/ but they're uncomfortable, also see ball-squooshing pants and shorts. The bulge comes from it being squooshed and I find it quite uncomfortable but she keeps buying gray sweatpants etc so I guess I'm stuck with it.
You need a totally different strategy if you're not /fit/ and hoping people don't notice.

You want more like Miami Vice mid-level to high-level trafficker look, so all white shoes (good luck keeping those clean), and something has to be faintly pastel and something has to be light color in every outfit. Like you're wearing a Trapper-Keeper from 1987. Not the one the weird horse girl had, the cool one with neon on the cover, but turned down a bit.
Note its summer so there's a big difference between being comfortable and looking good, and there's a big difference between trying to get attention because you're extremely /fit/ and trying to hide from attention because you're posted in the /fph/ daily general.
