My younger sister tells me I'm an asshole for leaving my cat outdoors. I don't like my cat being indoors because it shits and pisses everywhere and it makes my place smell bad. Also scratches up my leather couches and chews cables. Am I the asshole? As far as I'm concerned the cat likes being outdoor, it's a fucking wild animal after all.

Cats kill wildlife and can get hurt and sick. They are also a nuissance for other homeowner. It's also not a wild animal, it's a domesticated animal.

It's funny, I've heard people say "YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO LET CATS OUTSIDE!! THEY KILL BIRDS AND COULD GET ATTACKED BY COYOTES!!"

I have a Bengal cat that will attempt to break my door if I don't let him outside. He loves the outdoors. He craves the outdoors. He comes inside to sleep everyday then goes on the prowl at night.

I think it's incredibly cruel to keep any animal indoors 24/7 when they crave to go outside. Same with children. If a child craves to go outside we should let them outside. We don't go "THAT CHILD COULD GET ATTACKED BY A COYOTE DON'T LET THEM OUT!! KEEP THEM INSIDE 24/7!"

Most domestic cats actually cannot survive outdoors by themselves. They are NOT wild animals.

P.S. Obviously cats like spending *some* time outdoors, but they are not exclusively outdoor animals. You don't say if it's long-haired or short-haired, or what climate you live in, but a short-haired hat in a cold climate will freeze to death if it has to spend the whole winter outside. Their ancestors came from Egypt, and they don't do well in cold climates. Long haired breeds like Norwegian Forest cats have the opposite problem - they overheat in hot climates and need air conditioning.

You're doing the right thing letting you cat be outside. It's unnatural to keep a cat in doors. They like to be outside and cats and shit. They deserve to experience that. Killing birds and mice and lizards, having sex, fighting, all that. Your sister is a moron and so is anyone who wants to keep cats in doors
