I'm 24 and feel like I should dress better than just jeans and t-shirt but I feel so out of place whenever I try to "dress up" and even been told that I look retarded. I just don't get fashion, what goes with what, the sizes etc.

Should I try or just continue gymcelling and look good in a t-shirt?

when you have a style you divide people. the people that like what you're going for will like you more

if you stick to jeans and shirts no one ever thinks anything of you

Well you can be a "Levi's Jeans + Target nrivana t-shirt" guy or a "Mott and Bow Jeans" and "Marine Layer t-shirt" kind of guy.
There are levels of clothes quality - once you start buying better stuff for yourself (not hoodrat shit like Kanye brand or Reeboks), it shows that you care about yourself and that other people should care who you are, too.

It is fun to experiment with style. I wear jeans and a t-shirt most days but I have had phases where I liked to dress up more and develop my fashion sense. Every time I have a phase I bring a lil something with me when I go back to normie mode. As someone who has experimented with fashion a lot in my days, start at about 24 actually, the one thing to keep in mind is that you will never gain confidence wearing new clothes unless you just do it. And I have pics of me looking like a damn fool the way I'm dressed and it makes me cringe, but the more I have explored my fashion sense, the more consistently I have been proud of my fashion sense and gotten compliments, etc. Just have some balls and try those new shoes you've had in your closet but have never had the guts to wear. Try one item of clothing at a time so it's not too overwhelming.
