I've recently got an opportunity to buy a home for relatively cheap. My Grandparents died a few months back and my family is offering me a home worth over $200K at around a low 100K. Decent sized yard, 2 living rooms and 3 bedrooms.
I'm 25 and only make $30,000 a year. I can get one of my brothers to room with me but I know I'd be fucked if he ever moved out.

Should I take the opportunity given to me? I'm currently in the middle of closing but I can still go back if needed. I'm just so unsure if it'd be a smart move.

Pic unrelated.

Do you like the area? Are you handy enough to do small home repairs as needed? Can you handle interviewing tenants and picking a good one? This could either be fantastic for you, literal generational wealth, or a disaster.

It's the neighborhood I grew up in. Basically a block away so yeah I'm very interested in it. I'm not that handy but my Dad is and has all the tools that I could possibly need and he ain't afraid to teach.

Be a good listener/note taker/learner. Private equity is buying out all of the handymen they can, hiring a plumber or electrician in the future will mean getting financially raped and getting inferior service. 100K loan isn't THAT hard to get out from under if you have two tenants. Don't let your brother in if he isn't reliable. You two may be siblings and friends, but you now have bills to pay.

That was something I was worried about. It's why I'm making sure I have at LEAST 10K in the bank after. I don't want to get fucked over by a 6K bill. My brother is reliable as far as I can tell. Never missed a rent payment with my Dad and I don't think he'd fuck me over on purpose.
