A big problem is people whose life isnt going the way they want come to hawaii to start over, planning to get a job in a hotel or a restaurant or whatever to start out. Then either they cant find work, or they get into drug problems and get fired, then they have no money and cant just get on a greyhound back to their hometown to return to their family like people in the continental us can. So they get stuck there and live in tent hoovervilles. Its fucking sad. Then theres the natives, who have the typical native american issues of rural poverty and alcoholism. The outer islands basically feel like being on reservation a lot of the time. And they are not happy about being part of the US, and want to go back to the hawaiian monarchy.
Idk man, if you just want to be on the beach multiple times a week id pick miami over honolulu any day.
