I work as a librarian at a public library. One day a young man came in asking for books about the local area, he checked out a book about local land marks and attractions. A few days later I see a news report about a local man that committed suicide by jumping off a bridge in my town. I find more details about the man that died later, he was the same person I helped with the book. I check out the same book and that bridge was in the beginning pages. "One of the tallest bridges in the surrounding area" "has some of the most beautiful views around" I can never forget hearing his mother wailing

I don't know what to do. I lead him to his death, I did this. I only reinforced his decision, I destroyed his family. Nobody knows about this, I cant tell anyone, I don't know what to do. There's nobody I can tell. I cant tell his family sorry

You didn't do anything.

He already wanted to die. He refused to seek help even though free help groups and hotlines are around. He chose to pick up a book to find a spot. He chose to go to the bridge. He chose to jump.He could have used Google if he wanted to. He would have done with anyway even if you weren't in town!

Talk to someone. The same suicide hotlines also talk to those affected by suicides and suicidal people. They're free and available 24-7. Again: You did nothing wrong! It's not your fault! And nobody sane would ever remotely blame you here.

Look man, it's not your fault. You couldn't have possibly known he wanted to off himself. As other anons have stated, call the suicide help line. If you're in the US, it's just 988. His death was his choice, and it's a shitty thing that you inadvertently helped him. But THIS IS NOT YOUR FAULT.
