I make 1450 in SSDI and make 1100 working 80 hours every months on top of 150 food stamps and public housing 400 dollars. I got a offer at the union electrician office for a job but I’d be working crazy hours in a physical nightmare job and not sure if I can work 12 hours everyday for life but I would be making 9 grand a month after expenses. Should I try or should I just be happy with what I currently get? According to ChatGPT I am already in the top 20 percent of income earners.

If you can do it you should do it. You won't have nightmarish hours at first, BTW, as you are still training. Things can ramp up over time. Also if you become an independent contractor you can choose how much you work. Don't run up bills and you won't have to work so much.

Be happy with what you have. Do some research on what electricians do, and working 12 hours a day is a pain in the ass. You don't have time for anything, you work eat and sleep.
t. welder that works 12 hours a day

Do it for the money. Not for long or you'll quickly burn out. Save up as much as you can and move on to simpler things. That's exactly what I did for some years.

Two questions you're not asking:
How long to get back into the programs if the apprenticeship fails? Hours? Years? What will you live on if it takes four years with a lawyer to get SSDI again?
Most trades aren't lifetime jobs its "assumed" you'll go up or out, are you capable of running a small business in ten years, managing employees in 15 years, maybe a lot sooner? If not, don't get in, you're just going to get kicked out because of up or out. Most of the old trademen bitching about their "destroyed bodies" destroyed their bodies by sitting in front of the TV and drinking beer and eating junk food and never exercising, just like the white collar guys, except the tradesmen like to pretend it was their "strenuous job" that did it not their shitty lifestyle decisions.

This is such an "it depends" question that I just can't comment either way. I personally am going to grad school soon and will try to get off gibs after that, but not gibs are a lot worse than yours.

I guess I would say ask yourself do you want to work harder and make more money or keep working softly and making middling money. The housing situation you're in now is incredible value and I don't know that you'll always be making $9k/month. But more money is always good. Up to you, brother.

Don't be a wagecuck and give up your time and freedom to be stressed and working shit hours.
