My little brother in highchool just enrolled in jrotc, and he asked me if i can write this thread for him, because he’s still underage.

He’s just looking for advice from any graduates of the AJROTC program to let him know how to make it though his first year, and advance himself as far as possible in the course as quickly as possible.

as long as he's serious about it, just come in with a positive attitude and work hard. If he's overweight though things will be difficult for him, and he'll have to really show effort to get in shape.

Both Boy Scouts and JROTC are very local; given that, in my locality they were "about the same" maybe JROTC was a little more formal and serious and scouts did more outdoor fun stuff. Aside from the uniforms you'd be hard pressed to tell them apart in behavior, attitude, type of people you'll meet, etc. Its very local so who knows what its like where you are. Its like asking me what your local church is like, damnfino.
