There is a mail truck that consistently parks illegally on my street. He parks directly in front of a no parking sign. It causes cars to risk driving head on in order to drive around it.

It's not a serious problem, but a very glaring and annoying sight. Something that I wish to go away.

I don't want to personally confront the driver. Mainly because I'm not an authority figure, and don't want to risk a violent confrontation.

Can I call the police on him? Will they do anything? And do I risk any consequences?

I just want the mail truck to park less recklessly.

Yes. Report to police AND to the local postmaster. Let him get a ticket and a reprimand from his boss. You can do it anonymously
