I'm looking to buy a comfortable recliner chair for my bedroom just to relax in. Should I spend the extra money for the high quality la-z-boy brand chair or just get something cheaper? The high quality brand I'm looking at is $2,200 and the cheaper brand is about $500

There's very little difference in quality between the name brand ones and the cheaper ones. They're the same internally. Cheaper ones just might have upholstery issues sooner, but at the significantly lower price you would to end up spending less money over 5ish years even if you went with the cheap one and completely replaced it a few times in that timeframe.

But the la-z-boy has a lifetime warranty and I find it hard to believe they use the same quality cushions, but I will go to the store today and try out some different brands

Is that worth paying 4 times as much for? I really doubt it.

I bought a used no-brand one for $20 at a charity shop, threw a blanket over it just because I didn't like the color, and used it happily for 10 years,

Look closely at that "lifetime" waranty. It is full of "misuse" and "normal wear and tear" exceptions and pro-rated time limits. You are not going to get a brand new replacemnt after a few years.

I am sure they do not make them like they used to but my grandparents each had a la-Z boy, for as long as I remember. They are now gone but the chairs are still around.

I mean if it's good quality and comfortable then I feel like it's worth more than 4 uncomfortable chairs that I have to keep replacing

Yeah they switched from hardwood frames to plywood frames. They aren't like they used to be, but they are still great quality from what I've seen

Plywood is strong in every direction, if the ends are secure. Even better. The Germans used it for durability in the 40s.

They want $250 for shipping. Is this a deal breaker?

No but I just feel like when I'm spending thousands of dollars for a fucking chair they could at least give me free shipping. Spending money feels like non-stop ass rape to me

I'm really amused that you're now malding over $250 in shipping but were just a few posts up trying to justify paying an extra $1400 for the brand name and "warranty".
I will point out again, if you can go compare the cheaper ones to the name brand ones in person and inspect the frame underneath the upholstery you will discover that they are practically identical. I've seen my inlaws spend absurd amounts of money on "reputable" brand name products like sleep number beds, recliners, and stoves and still get fucked over with faulty products and go through months of service visits, replacement parts, and recalls. And then denied claims, fine print, waivers, and wasted time completely ate away at any perceived value they previously thought the extra expense was justified when they were making the initial purchase.
It doesn't matter what the price difference is. Paying more is never a guarantee that the product is comparatively better. The ownership of these brands changes hands, or they lower their quality control standards, or they move production to less capable facilities all the time. Brands that were reputable 20 years ago aren't the same companies they were back then. And the products aren't the same or better either.
Mattresses are the worst products in terms of mark-up versus actual product quality, but furniture is a close second place because of how much more difficult they are logistically to move.
