You have to strike a balance. I've come to find its a good idea to run your mouth and look dumb around new people or else they'll think you are dull/untrustworthy

Educate yourself more. Real shit like physics and robot engineering. The more you know, the more often you'll have something to say, and feel justified saying it. Don't spout opinions, spout facts, even debatable ones make for a better discussion than uninformed opinions.
