In my personal experience the girls that pursue you are usually not the girls you would have pursued, so you're their prize, not the other way around
while that can make some people happy (people with low self esteem) I've always had a more intense and commited relationship with girls I pursued and finally convinced to be mine over the ones that would bugger and pester me to be their bf

You're clearly envious. Stop thinking about your Mom's situation or your nephew's. That's not the road before you. You are on your own path with its own milestones triumphs and failures.
I mean this is a hypothetical but let me put it this way. Your primary problem might be "I am never getting married" while when your nephew grows up his problem could be "I am getting divorced"
