I work remotely and I want to live in NYC. I'm not getting any younger and I want to experience it before I'm a crusty oldfag. Of course I'm a fucking poorfag by NYC standards, so I'd be slumming it.

What would a budget of 3k living expenses look like, and which parts of the city should I be looking at? Again since I work remote, I'm a little worried about finding good roommates, as I'll be at home for most of the day. Although, transport costs should be a bit lower since I don't have to commute to and from work.

You would be looking at Brooklyn I think and living quite poor there. Or staying in a micro room or slumlord home in a more major area. They're getting away with paying you that little because you don't live in NYC. When you live in NYC you need to ask a higher salary.

Oh. That makes more sense. You're still looking at slumming it in NYC and unfortunately many parts of the country but with $3,000 you have a degree of choice. You're gonna have to sacrifice in some areas, and that's where your flexibility will come in.

My rent was $750 in Jackson Heights Queens
>phone/internet $25 with Mint mobile
>utilities were included with rent
>groceries and eating out ~$400 (but I wasn't dating and rarely drank alcohol)
>gym $20 Planet Fitness (let me guess, you need more?)

My entertainment budget was where I spent most of my free money. I got really into theater, which is the best thing about living in NYC imo. There are over 100 different plays put on every single night. I was going to see 2 or 3 broadway or off broadway plays every week, and going to the movies every week as well. There are around a dozen different arthouse movie theaters in NYC showing things you can't see anywhere else. But there are a bunch of ways to make theater more affordable. I'd say I was probably spending another $400 on entertainment each week with theater, movies, and sports.

So even at $2.5k a week I always had money left over at the end of the month. The big thing though was the housing was a bargain. My room was the size of a monk's cell in a shared apartment with 3 other people. Not even enough room for a desk, I had to get a wheeled hospital table and use my bed instead. But I treated my room as just a place to sleep, and tried to spend as much time outside of it as possible enjoying the city. My roommates were all chill and kept to themselves which was nice. Because my first roommate I had when I moved into the city was possibly a space alien. So you never know what you're going to get when you room with randos, and just have to hope for the best. At least he wasn't violent, but he did steal my security deposit, and even after suing him to get it back and winning (took years btw) he still never paid me. The guy built his entire life around having nothing in his own name, a true deadbeat.

NYC sucks dick now dude it's not 2015 and you still think NYC is a massive party that never sleeps. The city is at least 60 percent South Americans from the Bidenwave now and thanks to COVID theres no places open 24 hours anymore the city is dead after 11 PM. Brighton Beach boardwalk i swear to God almost nobody will be White when only a few years ago everyone was White Slavs in that part of NYC. I'm Dominician and I may also be a beaner but even our own neighborhoods have been taken over by squatty fat South Americans. NYC hispanics used to be Caribbean, now they're from those shitholes

the history of NYC is that of subsequent immigrant groups. Its ridiculous for you to complain, especially as a dominican, that there are too many people from "shithole" countries because the same thing you're complaining about was no doubt said about your ancestors, and said about the slavic immigrants in brighton that you seem to bizarrely look up to for being whiter than you. Who gives a shit about their "genetic makeup?" I lived in Jackson Heights with the Mexican new arrivals and it was completely fine. I don't know what your beef is here. It's also just objectively wrong to say that the city is dead after 11PM, things are back to what they were before Covid.

There are a lot of expensive fancy gyms in NYC for rich people with pools and rock climbing walls and watnot, but that's surprising to hear they don't have poorfag gyms in Italy. I even had a more expensive membership that let me bring a friend, use any location not just the one I signed up at, and use their massage chairs. The basic solo membership at planet fitness is $10 a month!

lol fuck off. why is a liberal unironically going "NYC WAS BUILT BY IMMIGRANTS BRO" on 4chan. the immigrants in the past settled in their own enclaves. they never took over the entire fucking city. hispanics (mainly south americans) are now at least 30% of every single neighborhood.

I don't know if that's true, especially since I was living in a total immigrant enclave in Jackson Heights. I remember going to Greenpoint to meet a friend and thinking "oh...so this is where the other white people are living"

But its just a fact that NYC was built by immigrants, that's not a meme. I'm generally pro-immigration, because attracting strivers from all over the world and assimilating them is literally our cultural heritage as Americans. I say you should have some self-reflection about that because that's how I feel. I'm Jewish and my ancestors all came to NYC from eastern europe in the 1890s-1920s and they were treated as undesirables from shithole countries, but now I'm just a white guy. So I don't see any reason to look down on current immigrants who just want a better life for themselves and their families.

Not saying everything is totally perfect, or there should be open borders or whatever, but don't assume that just because someone's on 4chan means they have to be some racist trumptard caricature.

$1500 a month is completely fine on a $3000 budget, as long as your income isn't $3000. That leaves you with like $100 for internet/phone, maybe $100 for utilities, $50 for gym shit, $500 for groceries and eating out, $250 for toiletries or taxis or whatever, and $500 for funko pops.
