I have a clinical biochemistry final in two days from now and there's another exam on the same day. I was severely sick this semester and couldn't study clinical nutrition (~600 pages of dense material that you can't cram, you need to analyze and apply the information in solving clinical cases).
Anyway, I told my parents that I will reschedule the final and postpone it to the next semester so I can study it in the summer. But both my parents said, NO! you must go even if you get an F!
When I inquire why? They literally say, "Because we say so!"
I can ace the exam and get a very high grade in it and I won't pay any penalties and it's my responsibility to study.
I won't go no matter what, but how to deal with my privacy invading parents?

Print out a mock exam and ask them to sit their asses down and answer the questions

Many of our parents were uneducated or didn't make it far in studies, so they heavily underestimate the amount of time, labor and studying invested in these degrees

Share the statistics and rates of how many med students and residents have to retake their exams, my brother who just graduated included.

Tell them; it's either I take it now and fail, or I prepare myself a little better to set myself up for success so I don't have to waste time cleaning up the consequences

It sounds like they want the title of having a daughter with a degree for social status. They could care less about convenience and practicality

Speed running education is 1. Impractical 2. Stressful 3. Kills the adventure of curiosity and adventure in education 4. Will increase the chances of failure

The only person in life who will give you the quality time, attention and proper accommodations will unfortunately be yourself. So take care of yourself

I don't know the rules in your university, but when I was not prepared to sit an exam, I did exactly what your parents said - went there and saw what it was about. At least I would have a rough idea how the questions are formulized when I re-sit the exam.

>I won't go no matter what, but how to deal with my privacy invading parents?
Just don't tell them, things are already complicated for you, do not overcomplicate them even more.

If the answer you get is "because we said so", it speaks volumes that they are clueless.

As the anon above suggested, mock exams are great. They are great when you have someone to check the answer afterwards. I've majored in Linguistics in the past year and ChatGPT has been of tremendous help, but again, use it with caution.

Two major exams in one day MIGHT be a legitimate reason to ask one of the professors to delay his for a couple of days. It's worth asking.
