How do I professionally explain to a doctor that the reason I have a septal perforation is because I did Coke for a couple months once?
I see an ENT tomorrow and I hate seeming ‘casual’ around doctors. I hate it when professionals do that thing where when they think you’re trashy they either treat you with less respect or try to speak more like a relatable stoner to you by using slang while it’s clear that they are annoyed and have less respect for you, or pity you.
I don’t know any other technical terms for cocaine and don’t want them to think I’m lying when I said I only did it for a few months. But overall I just want to phrase it in a way that doesn’t make me sound trashy.

Say it like they would say it, say youve been taking drugs recently, if they press you tell them that you have been down on your luck and havent had many opportunities recently to work, excuse yourself in a way that doesnt make you seem weak, say Im going to stop or I need help to stop so I can go to school or upgrade my career, your excuses should relate to professional success, nothing wrong with personal stuff but its a little sappy and inappropriate and you should save it for your family

I’m not in addiction currently I have a job I like and did Coke briefly like 3 years ago and am nothing like that anymore.
I just literally don’t know what to say because I’ve talked to 2 doctors about this and once they realized the hole was from Coke they stopped taking me seriously, even though I was reserved when I said it. I said something like “from cocaine use in 2021” and it was like they didn’t beleive that I’m not still doing it and treated me like I’m some kind of prostitute from a poor family that doesn’t understand English or something

that is fucked lol
i don't think there's a way around it, just keep shopping until you find a doctor who bothers to do their job

I’d personally go with something that implies you’re getting clean. Like “I had a brief relapse, but I’m getting back on track and this is part of that process”. You don’t have to go into specifics. At least in my area, most medical professionals I’ve worked with are super understanding and professional when dealing with these kinds of issues.

Yea but what if it was a phase for me 3 years ago and I haven’t touched it? How do I convince them I’m not a junky?
It just overwhelms me because I have a lot going on health wise and since that’s not the only topic I will be explaining to them I don’t want it to get messy

If you, in a decent manner, lay it out as a past event, then it'll get easier.
