It sucks but you make a lot of money. Boring, long hours, irregular schedule, stressful.

Not in finance but friends with people from school who do it. Seems like most of the job is just telling people ‘no’ when they ask for money. That and finding out the stupid shit people spend money on. End of year and end of month is crunch time, which can make for long hours.

Kek, that doesn't sound so bad. Except for the crunch time thing. I can't be bothered to give it my all for some company or whatever

Avoid anything with business/finance, AI will replace it in a few years, even if it doesn't only the best of the best of finance people will land a job as there is only so many companies in existance. If you want a good career, choose STEM. In engineering, they also offer you business administration and accounting courses, so you can found your own company (at least it's like that in Germany), so you have the basics of finance from the get-go.

Yeah, AI’s shaking up finance, sure. But it’s not just finance, every damn field is getting hit. Engineers, coders, analysts... if you’re not sharp, you’re done for.
And the “only so many companies” thing? That’s some weak-ass thinking. Companies pop up and die every day worldwide. Plenty of opportunities if you’re not a lazy drone.
Bottom line: no career is safe. Get skilled or get replaced.

Finance is a very broad term. What kind of work are you interested in exactly?

I don't really know, I'm a complete layman. Not interested in consultation work though.
Maybe in the payroll department? What do you suggest? Or what other departments are there? Thank you

Sounds like you want accounting. For that you need to study it then get a qualification. Accounting is probably safe from AI for now.

Oh wow, I thought accounting would be the most in danger, since it's a job an autistic person can do aka an AI could replicate that work too.
How is work as an accountant like? Boring or something?

Well, it depends on the position of course, ans it gives considerably more power than working some dead-end manual labor job, for example

Depends on which company. I was in finance, but banks were our clients, as we were a middleman, and we operated on standard bank hours.

It was pretty stressful because banks are always racing to the bottom on costs, and will always threaten to reduce their business to you, using their name as clout.

AI is shaking up all industries, including finance, but there is importance in B2B communication. If you are social, you will not be as threatened by AI like engineers or analysts.

>If you are social, you will not be as threatened by AI like engineers or analysts.

That will help avoid that issue, but the two groups you listed may not always be primary victims of technological substitution.

Generally, if you want to avoid substitution by tech then make sure you aren't working a "routine" or easily codifiable job. These have defined tasks, are repetitive, and don't require adaptability.

At the moment, and possibly foreseeable future, technology has trouble replacing these.

Remember that you can't just step into most finance roles. Advisor? Pass CFP. Analyst? Pass CFA. Accountant? Pass CPA. Actuary? Pass a hundred different tests. If you can't pass tests, your career options are limited.
I'm pretty sure that if you want to do IB, you need an Ivy League degree, so don't go in expecting to become Leonardo DiCaprio.
What do you like about Finance, Anon? Personal or corporate? Do you like math, or hate it?

I went to a business and finance charter high school and was born into the world of finance. If you aren't academically gifted, you're not going to do well in this field. At all.

Have you ever considered real estate?
