it's not their responsibility to do so if you're a lost cause in their eyes because they don't want retaliation or harassment, they'd simply rather not deal with you. if they're insistent upon being your friend/partner, they'd explain why. if they're insistent upon being your friend/partner and don't explain why, that's on them and you need to cut that tie
