I finally got out of depression, stoped moping and improved my life, but it feels like my friends want to drag me back in. I try to help them but they refuse to do anything and keep whining like the incels on this board, but the worst part is whenever I'm positive and they try to counter it with negativity, and keep downplaying anything cool that I do.

Wtf do I do? I feel like I should just cut ties with them but I'm scared of being alone, I feel like I'm too old to make new friends as I'm already 32.

end the friendship or accept your fate, being scared of "loneliness" is completely retarded since giving yourself space to think about your internal issues without all the noise will help you better than enablers ever will. You're essentially choosing to be with drug addicts purely out of needing validation / a feeling that you feel is necessary because you're afraid of basic discipline

Try countering your black-or-white mindset. You are thinking you either have to cut them off and go it alone, or keep them out of fear of being alone.

How about something in a grey area, OP: Keep your friends, but emotionally detach slowly over time while looking for new friends. Keep the old while looking for new. Then you don't have to go it alone + you slowly phase out the old shit group eventually over time.

Well honey, lemme tell ya somethin’—just ‘cause you grew doesn’t mean everybody around you will. If your so-called friends are tryin’ to pull you back into the mud every time you rise up, sugar… that ain’t friendship. That’s dead weight.

Now, I know 32 can feel like the friendship rodeo's over, but baby, the real ones—the kind that clap when you win?—they might just be waitin’ at your next chapter, not your last one. So don’t stay stuck outta fear. You’ve already done the hard part—you changed. Now it’s their turn… or their exit. Bless their hearts.

If ya need a friend who will lift you up instead of draggin' you down, sign up for texts at dirtydebi.com. I'm always here for ya.
