How do I accept that I am not good at math? I was never good at math. I did well on my SAT years ago (1100), but never touched it after high school.

Now, a job I want needs me to be decent in math on the entrance exam, but I can't get past the math part, even if I am good at other parts, reading/writing, and even mechanical shop. I have been taking study tests online and with help books like Kaplan and For Dummies, and with those tests and in the math parts, I am doing decent enough to pass, but when I take the official practice tests, I still score the same as before. What do I do? I have been studying and even getting a tutor to help jog my memory, and with the formulas, have been helping. But I still score subpar on the math parts, which lowers my grade on the test.

I try to keep a positive mindset, but nervous and starting to feel self-doubting. Any advice?

Math is gay

If it makes you feel better, a lot of people suck at math. Either didn't get proper education from school, just don't care/don't need it, or stupid

go to a psychologists office explain that you want to get an iq test, you'll see your strengths and weakness and it'll boost your confidence

Are you saying being bad at math = low IQ?

If you studied and still did poorly you might not be drilling enough.

I'm pretty good at basic math, but suck ass at algebra and the more complicated shit.
Calculators exist for a reason.

Finally a thread I can contribute to. I took pure math in college for two years and I can tell you that I don't have any natural aptitude for it. I needed to visit the office hours offered by my professors for every single timeslot they had available. I regularly performed in the bottom quarter of my classes (we had access to anonymised stats of everyone's grades). I took 4-5 hours on the exams while everyone else took an hour and a half. I did every single problem in the chapters assigned so long as my time permitted. If I wasn't asleep, showering, or eating, I was studying. I filled rooms full of whiteboards top to bottom with math problems. All this to say: I still underperformed compared to everyone else, but I still performed well on my own merits. I had pretty good grades and had a much deeper knowledge of the material than the other people in those classes who just relied on their intuition and intelligence for everything. You will need to continue working for it but man you are every bit as capable as anyone else so long as you are willing to make the necessary sacrifices. I of all people can attest to that fact. Attached is a good luck KOTIK for you brother.

Been studying for the past month. Aside from going to the gym, i haven't hung with friends or played games. I have a tutor to help me and took some practice tests from the books i mentioned. They have helped a lot but still get stuck on a few questions time to time

i can’t even do multiplication or basic addition without really thinking hard about it. and i lose my train of thought during calculations. i just stopped caring because math is pretty much useless irl. any job that needs math teaches you how to do the math without ever actually saying its math like all these mexicans building shit aren’t calculating the exact place to saw their wood board they just remember to cut there and drill here

now the actual jobs involving numbers i ignore. but i assume a calculator would help alot

im not retarded. i have an iq of 125 which is pretty good. the thing is however i have adhd. used to take meds for it as a kid and my mom said i would randomly spout mathematics beyond my years
i could learn it all if i wanted but im lazy and i don’t see a point. maybe when i get on adderall

anyway chances are if you can’t do math its not because you’re dumb. its because you’re lacking some basic fundamental knowledge you were taught in 1st grade either because u had shitty teachers or jerked off during class like me.

OR you have adhd and math is just too focus heavy for your brain to comprehend. you likely have issues listening to people aswell. about 4 seconds into someone talking to me i forget everything they just said and their words just because gibberish in my brain and i get distracted.

I did a IQ test and got around 115. I also used to be on meds for ADHD and stopped years ago. I don't want to blame my ADHD for everything as a lot of people do nowadays but sadly, i think thats one reason why i am bad at math. I also never cared for it after I left high school and avoided jobs that required me to do advanced math beyond basic % and multiplication, addition, subtraction, and division. I have been studying tho and know most of the formulas, just need to key them in

used to be top of my grade for 'math'
Play with numbers
there are usually different ways to get the same answer it broadens you to go over them
it helps to have and actual interest and actually try to get the concepts behind the expression
