If you are not charismatic or aesthetically pleasing, just focus on earning as much money as possible. When you get to college, only take majors and classes that will help you maximize your income. Trust me—money is the only thing that will help you make friends. I'm literally doing research over the summer and realizing that I have no truly close friends. Even the few I thought were my friends told me to my face, once they graduated, that they no longer wanted to stay in touch.
If you think you're super smart and plan to go into academia, just remember: you're probably not in the top 10%. Even if you are exceptionally intelligent, use that ability to make money. The only thing that truly matters in life is money—only money will get you friends.
If you are charismatic or aesthetically pleasing, you might be able to ignore this advice for a while, but even that will only take you so far.
