imagine you're in this situation: i am talking to a person who studies the same thing i do but in another country. both in the middle of our university undergrad.

however, when we get to talking technical, it is so, so, so clear they have much more experience and actually deal with their field of expertise outside of college whereas i don't and i do usually the bare minimum to pass classes or i skip out and half-heartedly just cram knowledge into my skull the days/weeks before the exam. i have no networking or experience doing the job but they keep talking about the specific problems they face in their job.

i feel so embarassed and a little scared they're gonna find out my incompetence and i'm ashamed to admit that i just kinda don't know things and don't know where i'm going with this degree. mostly wanted the diploma but i am a little more interested now

is it possible to "catch up"?

what is the degree program and how far along are you? I wouldnt be so concerned about looking dumb in front of your internet friend, and more concerned about first whether you will actually be able to finish your degree when you have to do difficult upper level classes and a capstone, and second if you'll actually be able to find and keep a job without networking and being as incompetent as you say you are. There is always time to turn things around though, its just a matter of committing to it and making changes. Identify what you're doing instead of studying. Are you playing video games, browsing 4chan, watching anime, jacking off, etc until 4AM then barely being present in class? You need to identify your time sinks, then you need to set yourself on a study schedule.

i know a little but i feel like i've passed so many subjects just "barely" by knowing the bare minimum or not performing as well i should have when i was depressed or had other crap in my life going on BUT

those are all excuses
i do have big time sinks, games mostly and stuff like that instead of like actually studying and understanding the material i study a lot of the time
