Parents expectation for bday.

for christ sake I'm in my mid 30s. Last year I didn't want to travel to my parents house for my bday. My bday lands on a holiday. I didn't really feel like traveling I just wanted a free Denny's breakfast and just chill play some video games and not do much. My Mom offered to drive to me. 2 Hours of the highway. but I just didn't want to, seemed to me like it was more out of pitty then anything. I told her no its okay I'm just sorta chilling not doing much. There isn't any negative reason for not wanting to do anything. I explained this to her.
Fast forward to a few weeks later I visited my parents, they both seemed like they didn't want to interact with me. My mom was more coming off as a bully and my Dad sorta just didn't interact with me. It seemed as if you don't do as we want we'll make things worse for you. Whenever I push back on my parents on my wants my Mom tends to go silent mode.

why can't they just listen. if the shoe was on the other foot I would listen as to thats what they want.

My bday is approaching again. I told them not to get me anything and I won't be traveling home for my bday. If they aren't going to listen to my wants then there is no point of even celebrating it with them.

am I being an asshole? I tend to be a people pleaser push over. I don't want to be bullied
