I lent my roommate $250 for his car repairs in Jan (he was having a breakdown about not being able to pay) and he said he would “get me back in two weeks”
That.. was in January. I’ve asked like 3 times and he keeps saying “it’s coming” do I keep pushing for it or just drop it?

He makes way more than me btw. He is in stem so idk if he just used me. Is it a lost cause?

It's lost if you don't build up more pressure than just asking once in a while

Catch him with his wallet open and say "I'll take that as part payment on what you owe me." If there are others around, all the better.

If you lend money, you have to expect that you won't be paid back

There is a lesson you bought with $250, it is up to you whether you learn it or not.

Start asking more and more, bring up how late he is paying it back, MAKE it an issue for him.

You are just a roomate and borrowed him 250. Assume the others borrowed him at least tenfold. Paying you back would be the less than 10% of his concern.

One person BORROWS. The other person LENDS.

>couldn't get together $250 to pay for car repairs
>makes way more than me
Never loan money to people who make more than you do. If they can't fulfill their obligations despite making more than you do, you're delusional if you think they will be more responsible in their dealings with you. Find somewhere else to live, then abandon ship at the end of the month or your lease. Leave him scrambling to find a roommate or cover rent solo. Make the $250 he owes you cost him. If he asks why you are leaving, let him know it's over that debt being over 5 months late. If he offers to repay, go ahead and take the money, but still move out.
Don't bother confronting him or trying to force him to pay. Only thing worse than a crappy roommate is a hostile roommate. Instead leave and let him melt down over his new housing crisis.

Any time you lend someone money, you should always assume you won't get it back. If that's a problem, don't lend it.

You're a fool for giving someone with less than $500 to their name money and expecting them to pay it back. If he could have paid you back he wouldn't need a $250 loan in the first place..

I try not to pick on people who are obviously ESL.
Some languages wont make the distinction between borrow and lend.

Speaking 2 languages makes him better at language than you are so its very ironic.

go on a board for literally any other language. they don't accommodate for being bad. they just say you're bad. there's zero reason to not expect people posting on an English language board to not speak English
