So my gf went to a music festival a few days ago. I'm not gonna say which one but she said she went to the hospital yesterday for examination and that the doctor told her she's HIV-positive and will require further medication. She asks $400 for the meds to keep her infection as low as possible. I am devastated by this news and I don't know what to do.

I know it's tough, and I'm just someone on the internet, but the way I see it, if she decided to go to the hospital, then it might mean that she knew she did something risky in there, and had the insight to check it;

Either way, I suggest talking to her about it, saying your fears if you have any, and working it out with her. I feel like this is something her family should help out more than you, in any case.

Personally though (and again, I'm just some bloke on the internet), based on my suspicions, I wouldn't feel obliged to give her anything, nor would I want to keep a relationship. I'd just share my sympathies and break up.

As others have pointed out, *if* she is HIV positive, she can't have contracted it a few days ago. It takes at least several weeks to test positive after being infected.

I imagine this is probably bait, but if it's not, it's possible she was infected years ago; so you should get yourself tested immediately.
