My brother has autism/retardation and he's 22. Should he be getting disabilitybux? I'm pretty sure he gets nothing, just lives with my parents in USA and has never come close to getting a job

>disabilitybux
people talk about the bux like its a one way ticket to freedom. its not like that at all. it literally pays poverty, a minimum wage guy will make more. it may as well not exist

Look into getting him on SSI. It's supposed to be a difficult process, and it doesn't pay much, but if he gets on it he'll at least have something. Be cautious about the asset limit though; it's only about $2k unless they've raised it.
If he gets on SSI, he should be eligible for SNAP (aka food stamps) too.

Depends on how high functioning he is. Autism isn't a death sentence for jobs. Most confirmed autists I know made it into high IT jobs, or managerial positions or even owning their own business.

Sounds like that's just your social circle. I don't think you're hanging with people like OP's brother.

It is about money. If the system can profit from it, money is granted. For example, if someone is close to the age of retirement, granting disability will save on letting one reach full retirement. Or, if a drug company profits enough from someone taking happy pills, like more than they’d be worth paying taxes at McDonald’s. It is rare that someone is getting the bux only because they deserve it.
