I've never known what career I've wanted in life, genuinely no fucking clue and even worse I've NEVER had a child-like dream about what I've wanted to become. Perhaps it's because I've had no real life experiences, but it really saddens me. I'm 20 now and I feel like if I don't find a dream soon, I will never spark any ambition, and I'll end up settling for an awful job with my shitty social studies degree. How do I find out what to pursue? Has any other anons felt this way? What's your job and do you find it fulfilling?

It’s almost certainly because you have had no real life experiences. But you can change that. Get a job and you can start to save money. With money, you can have those experiences that will make you grow as a person.

I'd like to, but I feel like I need to know what I want to do pretty soon-ish, or I feel like it'll be over. I know you can't really force it, but I just don't know what to do man.

Ok anon
That was me
I have spent years getting random degrees for nothing

You MUST commit to something. It does not particularly matter what, but you absolutely must pick ONE thing and do it. You must.

I hope I emphasized that enough for you because this is literally going to change your life.

What though? The only things I've kinda thought about doing was a teacher, because it sounds comfy, especially if I would to become a private school teacher it might pay decent. An accountant, because that sounds comfy. Or something law related cause it seems well paid and very fulfilling.

Those are three fine options. The hard part is to choose one. I suggest you give yourself a time limit and look into each as much as you can. Think about what your life would be like. Then COMMIT. Once you're in it, you're in.

I know its scary. To me it was like telling me to choose a coffin. But you must do it.

>I'm 20 now
eh I was a lil bit older until I figured out what direction I wanted to go in. My recommendation is to go to a community college and try any course. Even if you dont think it interests you just take it.
I spent nearly 3-4 years just hanging out at my community college because I didn't know what I wanted. Outside of my dumbass parents thinking that college is important I just treated it as busy work. That was until it finally clicked and I found that passion.

Btw it isn't like a burning flame or something that hits you in the head immediately, it's more like a path that becomes more obvious the further you go.

Calibrating instruments and working alone on industrial control systems brings me great joy not having to deal with retards for the most part.

Honestly, MOST people don't have a dream career. Most people just get a job in order to earn some money. Suck it up and join them.

>What's your job and do you find it fulfilling?
I'm long-term unemployed because of ill health now, but I used to be a software engineer. It was okay. You can think of it as being a bit like solving puzzles for a living. But remember that most people aren't fulfilled by their job; it's just a way to earn money. Look for something you're good at, not something you like.

Just do something. The worst thing you can do is to not do anything. Also, make sure that you are always learning from your job or experiences.

Succeeding by John T. Reed
What Color is Your Parachute by Bolles

They are the best books I've ever read on what is asked in the OP: career finding and planning.

Same but I think it's the best job for autists like us, they just turn me loose and I do what an autistic does but yeah it can be annoying sometimes.

Your twenty so everything you do is low risk, so apply for any entry level jobs you can. This will give you real life examples of what you like and hate untainted by romanticism. Alot of kids dream about doing a job to later regret it because they ignored the reality of what the job entails.
