You gotta compare it to the alternatives.
A gf/wife? That will cost you more as you keep them longer around. Quality of sex depends on your skill of handling her personality.
A fuckbuddy/slampig? Relatively cheap and low maintanance. But once they start developing feelings (they always do, if you meet more than once) things become unbearable. Sex is meh.
An internet ONS? Pure roulette. STDs, mental stability, sex itself. You never know what you get.
A whore? Expensive, usually checked for STDs and ready to leave once you finished. Comes in different colors and flavours.

If not for the social stigma (and possibly laws) the best option for short term seems to be a whore. The best option for long term is a gf/wife. Unfortunatelly both will make you poor.
