I’ve lived all over the place. Spent my toddler years in Georgia, experienced first grade in japan, entered middle school in South Carolina, spent my teens in wyoming, became an adult in California.

Maybe I’m just autistic and overly obsessed with the past but I’ve been longing for my childhood for the past three or so years. I’m not too old, only 24, but I want to return to the places i’ve lived and I don’t know how. Should I join the military?

I’m just about to graduate with a degree that I now realize is probably useless and won’t make enough money for me to travel to those places. I don’t have student debt so I could go back in and get another degree in 3 years, but I feel like that would just put me at a disadvantage in life for waiting for more years to graduate. I should’ve already had my degree by now anyways.

Georgia and especially South Carolina have low cost of living, why couldn't you move there?

Do you have what it takes to be a military officer? If so then go for it. If not then just accept that part of your life is passed and look forward to the good things in your future.

What is your degree in btw? It's concerning that you seem to already have resigned to being unemployable. I got a history degree (which also took me too long to get, since i dropped out and was working for a while, didnt graduate until age 29). I knew a history degree wouldn't specifically get me any job, but it's something i'm passionate about. Just having a degree entitled me to take civil service exams, and i got a job that way in a generic government bureaucrat position. Later I decided to quit and go to law school, so now ill never struggle to find a job.

I am very competent in math and science but I doubt this helps me anywhere if I were to become an officer. I am seriously thinking about joining the military just for my tuition to be paid for. I have quit a lot of money and no debt and I want to keep it that way

As for my degree; zoology, a degree that I should’ve seen as useful from miles away. I was told by my family to follow my dreams, which was to work in the field as a marine zoologist. I would do anything to tell myself to pick engineering or any other actual degree but can’t go back in time

>I have quite a lot of money and no debt and want to keep it that way
I have seen this mentality a lot on 4chan and I think its silly. You should shed this childish fear of being in debt. Debt is not necessarily a bad thing. Without debt basically no one would ever be able to buy or build property, start or expand a business, or get degrees. I'm sure you've heard the saying "you have to spend money to make money," so its always better to get a loan and spend someone else's money, then pay them back over time, instead of saving up for years until you could afford to do it with just your savings so you can remain debt free. People say "oh its wasteful to go into debt, since you have to pay interest" but think about all the waste and missed opportunity of having to wait years to advance your career. All the richest people in the world are literally billions of dollars in debt. Our president has always been that way too. He declared bankruptcy 3 separate times, literally took out huge loans to build his skyscrapers then when things didn't work out as he planned just said "lol I took out too many loans sorry, but I'm just not gonna pay them back, ok?" then he started the same process over again and was making money and advancing himself all that time.

If you want to be a marine zoologist what's stopping you? Are there really no jobs in that field? Do you need a masters degree to do it? If so then go get a masters degree.

you should have just joined the military in the first place. college is largely a scam but at least you didn’t go into debt.

It's over. Time to start shopping for a walker and adult diapers.
