As a general topic, interest in women is a subset of interest in humanity in general: ontologically, psychologically, or otherwise. That's different from being interested in a particular woman, which is something that comes from familiarity with women generally and with her in particular. Don't blame yourself for seeing them only physically at first: it's all you can do until you get a bit closer.

It does and that's okay. I still don't know if she feels the same way, there has been signs, but the time I've spent with her isn't paying off and I'm just not caring anymore, especially since she doesn't put as much into the friendship as I do.
