I intend to hand it over to the bishop next month. Besides the essentials (name, date of birth), what else should I put on it to ensure my departure from the Church? Have any of you gone through this process?

what's the point of all that instead of just not participating in church anymore?

I don't want them to count me as a member in their stats. It might be faggotry on my part, but formally leaving might give me a sense of taking back some of the control/time they stole from me. I didn't want to be 24 with my name registered there.

I didn't bother. There are people who will do the whole thing for you if you want.
Did you get your endowment? What was the straw that broke the camel's back?
t. same age as you, also no longer a mormon

I'm 25 and exmormon. I left when I was 19, dropped out of BYU. I haven't with drawn my records though, I'm waiting until my parents die.
Anyways if either of you are women let's have extramarital intercourse

There exist online legal services and advocacy groups that can assist you in formally resigning from the LDS Church, ensuring that the process is handled correctly and your name is officially removed from church records. While it's possible to resign on your own by submitting a written request, many people prefer to use third-party services to make the process smoother, avoid direct contact with local church leaders, and ensure that everything is legally binding. One of the most well-known services is QuitMormon.com, a free site operated by a licensed attorney that submits a formal resignation letter on your behalf directly to church headquarters, often helping people avoid unnecessary delays or contact from church representatives. Although some delays have occurred at times due to changes in how the church processes these requests, many still find it to be a reliable and convenient option. Alternatively, you can draft and send your own resignation letter, including your full name, birth date, and membership record number (if available), along with a clear statement that you are resigning, to the LDS Church’s Membership Records department either by mail or email. Once your resignation is processed, the church typically sends a confirmation letter stating that your name has been removed from its records and that you are no longer considered a member. This process generally takes a few weeks, though it can vary.

I didn't receive my endowment and I dropped out before I even received the Melchizedek Priesthood. Since my teens, I had been interested in other faiths and had come to see the older religions as more venerable, if that makes sense, and the lines between the "world" and the Church began to seem more blurred to me over time. I decided to leave for real when I realized that I was developing mental illness while staying there to please my family and maintain the facade of the ideal Mormon clan. It was only later that I realized that I had wasted the first 18 years of my life for nothing.

I think it's a sausage party on this thread :-/
Besides, I'm Brazilian. Imagine how disgusting it is to be Brazilian and reject carnival, caipirinha and women because of one of the most ridiculous religions in the world.

If it works by email, even better. I was thinking that I would have to go to the bishop with a paper because it is a ward in Brazil.

In the last days, the hearts of many shall grow cold. The world, in its glitter and excess, will stretch out its hand, beckoning even the covenant people to stray. As prophesied in scripture, there will be a great sifting: a division not of tribes or nations, but of the faithful from the faithless. Many who once walked the covenant path will begin to fall away, seduced by the ways of the world. They will trade the holy for the hollow. The adversary will wrap temptation in beauty, masking destruction in pleasure. The pursuit of women, of alcohol, of partying, and of vain ambition will seem harmless at first, perhaps even celebrated. The standards that once distinguished Zion from Babylon will blur for many. "Eat, drink, and be merry," they will say, "for tomorrow we die." But even as the majority turns their faces from the light, a small remnant will remain. They will not be perfect, but they will be faithful. These are they who will cling to the iron rod when others let go. They will raise families in righteousness, even when mocked. They will forsake worldly praise for eternal promise. Their eyes will remain fixed on the temple, their ears tuned to the voice of living prophets. While others forget their covenants, they will renew theirs: week by week, quietly and humbly. They will be few, but they will be mighty through Christ. This remnant will not escape tribulation, but they will endure it. They will weep for those who wander and pray for those who mock them. They will be misunderstood, misrepresented, and at times maligned; but they will not fall. Their foundation is the Rock of their Redeemer. And when the Lord returns, as He surely will, He will gather His faithful. Not the loud, not the popular, not those who chased the world: but those who remained true when it was hardest to do so. The remnant shall remain.

I just stopped going. You don't really have to do anything else and can just keep turning away your home teachers.
I had such an awful experience in the singles ward and didn't enjoy going as a kid or teenager and just got tired of it all. I ended up marrying a Christmas-catholic.

I'll check them out. I was just wondering if there would be more bureaucracy because it's a branch in another country.

I just had an epiphany and wanted to get my name off the registry before my 24th birthday in September. A vain act of petty revenge for the stolen years.

Just stop going but stay a member. It might come in handy some day (like SHTF or just major social breakdown) or you might have a change of heart. It's part of you whether you like it or not. Try to just mature and evolve instead of throwing a tantrum and burning bridges.

I think about it this way sometimes, but it doesn't make sense in my context. Mormons here aren't uberpreppers with ranches, guns, and canned rice, just regular wagies who give 10% of their shitty salary to the Church. If the Brazilian social contract collapses they will probably be converted/exterminated in some regions by evangelical narcos.

Now the part about the need to mature is absolutely true. I lack wisdom and experience. The kind of lack that makes you feel like a withered plant.
