One of my best friends is someone I met online. We talk every day or every other day. He lives in another country. Without warning, he went completely offline for 2 weeks. He hasn't been active on any of his accounts (besides his Instagram, which is private and I can't access since I don't have an Instagram).
I had only been slightly concerned until today when I suddenly developed a deep fear. I messaged him on everything I have him on, just a short message saying, Hey man, I hope you're good, missing you, let me know if you're alright. Nothing yet.
I don't know any of his friends and so can't reach out to a mutual friend. I hesitate to make a post anywhere asking if anyone is a friend of <xyz> as, if he's just taking a break or something, I don't want to make this a public issue.
He's a wonderful person but he does have mental health struggles in the past and I have to admit this is getting to me a lot. I'm sure I'm way overreacting, but in the meantime if I can't make the situation better, I at least want to be calm and enjoy my days.
What should I do?

Have you guys met IRL? Do you have his phone number? Anyway, not much you can really do. If he's dead, you'll never find out. He might just be going off the grid or changing handles, there's a lot of possibilities many of which could involve you two never speaking again (particularly if you only know each other online).

No and no (though we had been talking about meeting up).
You're right there's not much I can do. I just wish I knew. Without knowing, it's difficult to suppress the anxious feeling. If he is disappearing purposely, I just wish he had said goodbye. I really care about his wellbeing.

How long have you been talking for? I mean even knowing that, it still really could be anything. Perhaps you're talking too frequently and he just needs a break but isn't sure of how to communicate that without hurting your feelings. Maybe he just isn't interested in being friends with you anymore. Could he be going through something and just not have the capacity to talk? I don't know, and there's not much you can do here other than either wait or move on with your life.
